40K RUMORS: Post 8th Xenos Plans

There is a new set of 40k rumors covering what Xenos will be focusing once 8th is here to stay.

Everyone and their brother knows Warhammer 40,000’s 8th Edition is on the way next month.  The big question is… THEN WHAT?

Industry professionals tell BoLS the following:

Onto the Xenos

Xenos won’t be getting attention till 2018

Orks and Tyranids will be first out of the gate

Look for campaign book to focus on the the unforeseen results of Inquisitor Kryptman’s gamble – the Octarius War. When Orks and Tyranids fight – bad things can happen…

There will be other faction Xenos IC dropped in here and there next year outside of their full armybooks, probably in various Triumvirate box sets.

Earlier this week we brought you this:

Look for a focus on the big villains of the Grimdark this year (2017) – Chaos and their struggle against he Imperium

GW is working to make Chaos return to their rightful place as the primary antagonists of the Grimdark.

GW is liking the 3-model “Triumvirate” sets, so look for these to return after 8th launches later this year.

Ranges mentioned for particular attention this year are:

  • CSMs
  • Astartes
  • Ad Mech

Next year will see attention moving to popular non-Imperial armies who have been long neglected by the Studio.

Why do i keep clicking on these posts. That is a whole lot of non information.

    • kingcobra668

The solution would be to log off the internet for a bit and actually paint your models or go for a walk or something.

      • Lion El’ Jonson

*Looks at my painting bench full of unpainted Astartes*

….I’d rather just click on these posts with a whole lot of non information….

        • Kyle

          This guy gets it.

    • Xodis

Not sure about you, but it kills time at work for me lol

      • euansmith

Yeah, I’d rather spent time commenting here than doing all that boring Air Traffic Control they pay to do.

        • Xodis

lol I’m IT, so nobody dies when I goof off…what airport again?? lmao

  • AEZ

When Orks and Tyranids fight – bad things can happen…
    ORC TYRANID HYBRIDS

    • Darth Bumbles

      Tyranids as smart as Orks!

      • AEZ

Will teh WAAAGHH controle them or the hivemind? OR WILL THE HIVEMIND GO WAAAAAGGGHHHH

They will be merged into a new faction called Orkanidz consisting of four-armed green insects wielding oversized axes riding on Squigs.

          • bobrunnicles

            I…I’d buy that.

          • Brandon Rutter

finally some realism in this game

Im honestly hoping the Hrud show up, or something.

    • Jack Jomar

Oh no. The tyranids will gain additional biovores! ruun…

    • Wampasaurus

These already exist. Theyre known as Biovores….

    • WhenDidVicesBecomeVirtues

Just imagine if they paint the tyranid ones red. Mankind = doomed.

  • Logan Miller

I guess hold optimism for Plastic Sisters for 2019? No, no, that’s too soon. Gotta have at least 3 more Astartes releases and another edition before THAT happens.

    • ZeeLobby

Yeah. I feel bad for everyone defending GW’s plastic sister comment saying that Celestine was the first and they’re right around the corner. Then saying things like, well Celestine was a plastic sisters model after they weren’t around the corner. Turns out GW was pulling the community’s leg all along.

      • Randy Randalman

Yes, their goal was to blatantly lie to the public they’ve worked so hard for and with the last year.

        • ZeeLobby

Lol. Seems like it. Or they were just poking fun at a sore subject for people who actually play sisters. Either way, it wasn’t the flowers and celebration all fanboys claimed it would be. Really wish the new starter was plastic sisters vs Nurgle, instead of Guillimarines, and I don’t even play them.

          • memitchell

I am pretty sure I am the only person I ever saw play Sisters. Back in 2nd and 3rd edition, when they were new. I’ve been out of circulation since 4th, so I may have missed the explosion of female games playing Sisters.

          • Shawn

I’ve seen one person play sisters a couple of times in the last 10 years and it was the same person.

          • memitchell

Our lone points of data (two SoB players) are completely nullified by Z’s lone point of date (2 SoB players, and two possible SoB players). 😉 ALL male, by the way. Truth be told, If Sisters of Battle attracted actual females, SoB’s would be easily the most popular miniatures in all of gaming.

          • Shawn

            Agreed.

          • ZeeLobby

Well then it must be true guys! Memitchell’s lone point of data proves it! Call off the search! LoL

We have 2 sisters players locally, and others who’ve been interested but turned off due to metal models (all are male btw).

        • Muninwing

no. it was a joke. it was clearly a joke, at the end of a joking video.

what’s more, the actual context of the joke made it pretty clear that it wasn’t happening — the place they were supposedly discovered was in the trash.

as in, the idea had been thrown out. binned. trashed.

as in “don’t get your hopes up”

but, like a number of other ideas, it was repeated until people believed that it was truth, rather than investigate on their own.

    • D_Ork

GW made Sisters thinking that it would draw female gamers in. When that didn’t work, they basically dropped them.

      • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

they should try again, I know lots of girls into geek culture now compared to the past.

    • Spacefrisian

Female Ultramarines before that, Girlyman has the build manual.

  • Davewasbaloo

Boooo. The Xenos are the only reason I choose 40k. Although I have Dark Angels, Deathwatch, Ultramarines, and Chaos forces, they are boring compared to Necrons, Tau, Tyranids, Orcs, and even eldar…

    • kingcobra668

They don’t currently have tons of models and won’t be getting new rules with every other army when 8th drops? How does waiting 6 months actually change anything beyond proving you an opportunity to complain? Maybe paint the models you currently have in preparation for new units?

      • ZeeLobby

I mean it is disappointing though, as a fellow Xenos lover. It might have been easier to stomach if Xenos weren’t so neglected for the past 2 editions. I keep hoping GW will move to a release cycle where all factions get some goodies spread throughout the year, as many other companies do. If you don’t play imperial factions you spend a lot of time waiting.

        • NNextremNN

I wouldn’t say that Eldar and Tau were neglected for the past 2 editions. But it seems they get nothing in 2017 and still nothing in early 2018 which is still sad.

          • ZeeLobby

yeah. There’s definitely been favorites through out imperials, Xenos and chaos. I just think it’s unfortunate that players who don’t want to play SMs sometimes have to wait significant periods of time to get excited about something. GW justifies it because 50% of people play space Marines, but I was really hoping that 8th would stop this chicken/egg syndrome (though I guess it’s present in AoS so I shouldn’t be too shocked). These may be false rumors though. Will have to wait and see.

          • AircoolUK

Some of the models have been neglected for a long, long time. Even though Tau Fire Warriors have a new sprue, the sculpts haven’t changed. Some parts, like the armour plates on the legs were particularly ropy, and absolutely horrible should you get a sprue with bad mould lines.

            They’re over 15 years old!

          • Uh…the new models fixed that. >_> Might want to talk to your LGS about getting new stock.

        • memitchell

BooHoo! My Genestaeler Cult was neglected for the past 5 editions. And, we ARE an Imperial faction. Of sorts.

          • ZeeLobby

I mean Genestealer cult was uber-niche. DE, Orks, Tyranids, Tau and yes, even Eldar, have languished over the years in the shadow of Imperial favoritism. It’s just not a smart business model if you want people to buy anything other than 2/3 factions.

          • memitchell

Uber-niche! Genestealer Cult pre-dates THREE of your examples. Why, I aughta…

          • ZeeLobby

Old does not equal mainstream, lol. Those boomboxes man, still super popular!

          • memitchell

You usually say Space Marines are popular because GW promotes them. Now, are you saying GSC is not popular because GW does not promote them? Promote them!

          • ZeeLobby

HuH? What are you trying to say here? Space Marines are popular, because GW promotes them. Prior to the latest GSC release, GSC were a very niche army (heck they didn’t even have rules). No one expected that they should get cool new things for them throughout the year when they didn’t even exist. This is not true for xenos factions. They exist, people play them, and they get the shaft. It ends up skewing the player base, and makes the game less interesting. That’s just reality.

      • Davewasbaloo

I had misinterpreted this as we won’t have the Xeno rules until next year. As long as we get the rules with everyone else, I am happy.

      • Ryan Miller

Everybody is getting new rules day one.

  • D_Ork

Awesome, the Xenos news is that there are more Imp releases coming.

  • orionburn

If GW does go through with yearly updates to a “General’s Handbook” for 40k it would be awesome to see a repackaging of the core set. An Orks & Nids set would be pretty sweet to see.

I’m still not sure how they’d make a Triumvirate work for Nids.

    • Shawn Pero

They’d likely rebox existing multibuild kits that can build characters. Or create new Nid characters from the supplement for the box…?

    • kingcobra668

A big beast and new body guard type?
      Old One Eye?
Anything really, just use your noodle noggin.

      • orionburn

My “not sure” comment was meant more in regards to a Triumvirate that works with multiple armies since that’s what GW was doing with the other releases. A dedicated Nids Triumvirate wouldn’t be a bad thing at all! It would be nice to see something brand new. I mean they are always trying to learn from their enemies and come up with new & improved things that go stabby-stabby in the night. Lord knows the Red Terror could use an update, and yes, a dedicated model for Old One Eye would be pretty slick.

        • memitchell

          Psst…Genestealer Cult.

          • Muninwing

well, the three triumvirates thus far have been from different factions (admech, inquisition, sisters… subfactions of froofy DE/IYanden/generic space elves… and DA, GK, SM).

a triumvirate of Orks, or of Nids, could borrow from numerous sources. the Nids could include Genestealers. the Orks have plenty of directions to go in.

    • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

Old One Eye, Doom of Malantai and some new psychic beasty.

  • CrisisSuitsOwn

Tau just got an expensive set of three codexes made useless within a year and a half…

Only to be shelved for another year at least.

During 3rd edition your army was useless if your opponent had a codex and you didn’t. Tau didn’t exist until they got a codex and were really bad when they dropped.

This does not bode well for 8th…

    • NNextremNN

I hope these rumours mean just models ant not even getting a faction book while Imp and Chaos get one this year. This would be really bad.

      • orionburn

It’s strictly about models. All the armies will be covered in new books on day one of 8th.

        • NNextremNN

They said updated unit and weapon profiles. Army specific relics and some other stuff (formations which are supposed to cost points?) still comes in army specific books. Just take a look at AoS where you have grand alliance books and still get army specific books.

          • orionburn

Oh…gotcha. Yeah that’ll be a big pile of suck if Xenos get no formation love until next year. I was under the impression that all that would be covered in the bundling of armies into the 4-5 books they were talking about.

          • AircoolUK

Nnnnnnnng… everything will be covered in the books that they’re releasing alongside the new rules.

The future books, will contain the new stuff which builds on everything we have now. This will include new rules, formations, campaigns, models, scenery etc…

All the ‘new’ stuff which will be released post 8th will actually be ‘new’ stuff.

          • NNextremNN

Well it’s a little vague what will be in what book.

          • Ryan Miller

Formations are gone, so, no need to worry about that.

          • NNextremNN

It was mentioned somewhere that they now cost points maybe they just renamed them doesn’t AoS has army specific warscrolls or something similar (I’m no AoS pro)???

Anyway they found a reason to still sell books besides fluff and plan the same for 40K and I hope we don’t have to wait a year or longer to get something fundamentally that others get right at the start of 8th edition.

    • AircoolUK

All the rules for all the armies and models will be released when the game launches.

“Every Warhammer 40,000 miniature we sell today will be usable in the new edition of Warhammer 40,000. What’s more, they’ll be supported with new rules, which will be available from the get go in handy, low-cost books.”

So no need to worry. People keep forgetting that 8th is more of a clean sheet rather than another iteration.

Once again, *sigh* look to how they did things with AoS, except with two years experience learning from their mistakes and successes.

      • Karru

Exactly. One can expect a lot for Imperium, some for Chaos and very little for Xenos. This has been the AoS way of handling things.

One should expect that GW won’t be giving too many updates on the currently “neglected” armies. Orks, Tyranids and Dark Eldar will most likely wait a good long while before the get anything. Necrons, Eldar and Tau might get something, but not before Imperium has gotten at least 3 updates and 2 new factions.

The problem here is that while your army might be playable and legal right out of the gate when the game launches, it doesn’t mean it will remain effective in the slightest. Currently Death armies are very “boring” as vast majority play Flesh-eater Courts for obvious reasons. Meanwhile I haven’t seen that many High Elf armies or Dark Elf armies, but Sigmarines, Fyreslayers, Lizardmen and Sylvaneth armies I’ve seen a plenty off.

People are worried about this. While they can use their armies, it doesn’t mean they can compete with other “pure” armies that get book releases. It’s purely based on the extra rules and equipment available over those in the “general” book. An alliance book with generic traits and relics for the entire faction can only get you so far compared to an army that has access to both those AND their own rules that grant amazing buffs to their own units.

        • Goatsplitter

There will be some crap armies out there. It’s unavoidable. But who says it will be wholesale Xenos? I present Exhibit A: Revening Hordes: Chaos Dwarfs, and exhibit B: AoS Beastclaw Raiders. Neither is/was a mascot army, but CD were tough, and BR are just op borked as Hell.

Wait for the rules. Your Xenos of choice might be awesome, middling, or terrible. You can’t profess to know that right now.

          • marxlives

There will be some crap armies out there. It’s unavoidable. Never understood that sentiment from a game people pay top dollar for.

          • Goatsplitter

Do understand, my use of the word ‘crap’ is relative. GW can and absolutely should maintain a narrow bandwidth when it comes to army power levels. Something I concede they haven’t shown a remarkable talent for in the past. But even if they get good at army balance, there will always be someone at the top and someone at the bottom. It can’t be helped

  • Derek

Look like I have to wait for another decade for a new Ranger kit (along with their SW:A rule). I hope those AoS Aelves summer release still true.

New Ork kit would be nice if they made a new Warboss kit with many options like the Chaos Lord Terminator or Space Marine commander. Although I think the new Warboss will probably be a monopose, one option model like the Autarch kit.

  • Mr_Pickles

it’d be nice to get a Necron C’tan box set, with the two older C’tan Models getting an update.

    • EnTyme

I’d kill for that and a C’tan Shard of the Void Dragon. More like scenarios, though is we eventually get a “triumvirate” box with an updated Trazyn and two new characters. Maybe the Silent King and a new C’tan? I can only hope.

      • Mr_Pickles

Void Dragon breaks loose on Mars, Trayzan(Trollzan) shows up and the Silent King with his posse show up, Mars unlocks its Death Star laser, bad times were had by everyone….

  • Ryan Williams

Wasn’t war between the Orks and Tyranids exactly what Kryptmann wanted…?

    • Derek Lee

Yeah but the orks might evolve into better ass-kickers like “The Beast(s)” or the Nids may get even better at spawning from spores and get Waaagh on top of hive mind. The point is, there is going to be a winner and what they win might be an advantage on top of being the two fastest repopulating armies of destruction.

  • Xodis
    • kloosterboer

      Holy twin linked, Batman!

    • Shawn

I saw that. I”m pretty happy with that. Although, looking at it is the twin heavy bolter the same as a hurricane bolter? If it is, they already got 6 shots at 12″, so is this just a 6 shots at any distance up to 24″. Not really an increase in shots. Now if it’s just a devestator or heavy weapons tactical marine with a heavy bolter and it’s six shots, that will be devastating. Kind of puts the devastate back in devastator.

  • LordKrungharr

Hmmm, I predict the Chaos Triumvirate will be Abaddon, Typhus, and Fabius Bile. Because Chaos can make super Thunder Warriors 2.0 just as good as Guilliman and Cawl!
