Geekery: ‘The Gifted’ has Promise

A new series set in the X-Men universe is coming to FOX this fall.

The official synopsis:

Family adventure series THE GIFTED, from 20th Century Fox Television in association with Marvel Television, tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

It has potential. TV has been kind to mutants recently – Legion is excellent. But it has got more breathing room on FX than The Gifted will on network. It has some good things going for it…

The cast includes mutants Eclipse (Sean Teale), Blink (Jamie Chung), Polaris (Emma Dumont), Thunderbird (Blair Redford); and is focused on the Strucker family played by Stephen Moyer, Amy AckerNatalie Alyn Lind, and Percy Hynes White. It’s got a who’s who of creatives behind it. On the producer list: Simon Kinberg (Days of Future Past), Jeph Loeb (Legion, Agent Carter) and Jim Chory (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage). Main writer is Matt Nix (Burn Notice). The pilot was directed by Bryan Singer.

The Gifted will hit FOX this fall – there’s not a set date as of yet.
