40K RUMORS: About That Next Primarch

The next set of Primarch rumors are here and oh they are so sibilant…

We’ve all been speculating about who and the when the next primarch is arriving. Everyone keeps guessing about almost every one.

But some industry professionals tell BoLS the following:

  • Fulgrim’s miniature is done.
  • It will accompanied by a large range of his …children (you know the ones)
  • Timeline is unknown, but it will make a Mortarion-like splash when it all arrives.

Rumor Thoughts

I think we are seeing a pattern here. Roughly 1 year back we saw back to back releases of Magnus, Wrath of Magnus book, New Thousand Sons, new Age of Sigmar Tzeentch minis including the Lord of Change and the AoS Disciples of Tzeentch Battletome.  It was truly the “Year of Tzeentch”

Then these last few months we get Death Guard, Mortarion, full Death Guard mini range, Nurgle Daemon minis, Great Unclean One, AoS Maggotkin Battletome. We are currently passing through the “Year of Nurgle”.

I think GW has a formula down and wants to do this with Slaanesh next. The Dark Prince hasn’t seen a new mini since before the END TIMES blew up Warhammer Fantasy and has been “lost” for 2 years now.  I have a funny feeling GW is planning a full Fulgrim, Emperor’s Children, Noise Marines, new Slaanesh minis, and AoS Battletomes in the future.  The only question is how long?  Based on the stunning quality of the Death Guard Range – I can only dream about what a 2018 technology range of these guys could produce!

Who knows, maybe we are 2 years away from a full set of Thousand Sons, Death Guard, Emperor’s Children and World Eater codexes to accompany Codex CSM.

~What do you think?

  • No excrement, Sherlock… That’s what people have been saying for the past few months already.

  • Jonathan Birkett

I though they’d link in an update for Slaanesh with moving the Aeldari story line forward.

  • Sonic tooth

Don’t forget, Mr Vela has big issues with Slaanesh and thinks it should be dropped from the 40k universe AND thinks we should all hang our heads in shame for appreciating its visual identity.

  • Luca Lacchini

Just hope the sculpt isn’t cluttered by details.
Mortarion was kinda of an overkill.

    • euansmith

I dunno, I think that Slaanesh is maybe all about the detail. I’d certainly love some really cool Noise Marines.

      • Dennis J. Pechavar

Sadly the details clutter up the models. IMO. Too many models recently don’t use empty space very well, they fill every mm with stuff. Not saying some are really nice but sometimes less is more.

        • euansmith

I can see what you are saying. If I can reach the filigree with a metallic Sharpie and the incised detail looks okay with a wash, I don’t mind a certain amount of surface clutter; but, when it starts to have a detrimental effect on the minis’ silhouette, I’ll buy something else.

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

I like the new plague marines but I’ve cut some of the detail off to (ironically) clean up the models. The plague marines of old, esp the Forge World versions, are amazing IMO. Good detail but not cluttered and enough space to work your own art style into the model. It’s the age old issue of “we can do something but should we” that gets me with the newer GW models. As further example the Genestealer Cult models are beautiful and are a treat to look at. Thats about it sadly. I repeat that this is my opinion and I understand why others like the new art style.

          • euansmith

The Genestealer Cult and the Chaos Cultists really appeal to me.

I’ve just ordered a bunch of Empire Handgunners to paint up for, hopefully, a Path of Glory campaign against a mate. I chose them partly because I’ve come up with some fluff that appeals to me, but mainly because they are nice and simple and should be easy to paint with the “uniform” I’ve got in mind for them.

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

Excellent! I have far too many Empire troops now that fantasy is dead. IMO the best minis that GW ever released were the Dogs of War Pikemen. All were proper scaled and characterful, such lovely models. They were rubbish on the field but very few of the Dogs of War units were good. There was a 3rd party that made their list solid and I was able to do well but otherwise it was a reward for finishing other armies units to paint them. The old Mordheim Averlander models are also absolutely gorgeous. Very nice to use as unit champions. Averland forever!

          • euansmith

I will miss the Mordheim Militia sprue, that, along with the Flagellant sprue has been the basis of so many Fantasy and grim dark minis.

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

The Flagellant sprue is so crammed with bitz it’s crazy! I still have some left over from ten years ago(might only feel that long). Mordheim is still big with my group, the only thing we need more of now is scenery. I really love a crowded board when it comes to Mordheim.

          • euansmith

I thought that GW had discontinued the Flagellants until I found them hidden in Devoted to Sigmar instead of Free Guilds where I’d expected to find them 😉

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

I still have my old metal ones. One of the few good things about 8th was fielding those madmen in a horde forty large. Sadly the Empire book nerfed the heck out of Flaggies so not many used them. I used to use two blocks of twenty in 7th thanks to having priests in the army.

      • marxlives

Time for all the Emperor’s Children to make some….noise.

  • Ryan Miller

There is hope! The next loyalist primarch may be Manus! If Fulgrim, then Manus as well! Or Iron Hands get crapped on in 40k again…

    • JJ

whoa… calm down.. don’t lose your head!

      • D. B.

        To soon.

        (Literally, it’ll happen in 29.000 years. 😛 )

    • Rafał Pytlak

I’ll start to worry when the most borring legion (The 10th) will not get crapped upon. That will be the end times…

      • Dennis J. Pechavar

You misnumbered the most boring legion. The correct Roman numeral for that is VII as the most boring…

        • euansmith

Doesn’t that honour belong to the XIII?

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

For being Roman like yes. They really aren’t as boring as Matt Ward made them. I have a mate who loves his Ultras and has them for both 40 and 30k. He is a far better painter than I am and they are characterful and beautiful to look at. Ward made them boring and “the best” but the old fluff(I’m only going back to 2nd Ed) was good and I liked them. I still prefer old school DAs but that’s another topic. Dorn the autistic and his brood are boring and one dimensional. There is obviously someone at GW right now that loves them as they are suddenly right after Horus for being the best legion. Lies and deception.

          • euansmith

I have a soft spot for the Ultramarines because they have the best of GW’s pun based names.

But, then, I am fond of the Imperial Fists as they are the patron Chapter to the first and best Space Marine Chapter. #rememberrynnsworld

I guess it was prophetic that the first Space Marine Chapter to be detailed by GW died in droves in a desperate last stand. 😉

    • Coltcabunny

Next loyalist Primarch will be Fulgrim. Trust me.

  • Talos2

Well the heresy seems to have fallen off a cliff so they’ve got to keep us interested in primarchs somehow

  • Kabal1te

Is any of this news really news? I suspect a new loyalist primarch sometime this spring and come fall the emperors children with slaanesh demons closing the year or starting the next one

    • eMtoN

How else can they show how awesome the Ultramarines are other than to have Guilliman fight not 1 or 2 but 3 daemon primarchs all by himself?

  • suitsandsteaks

Didn’t Fabius Bile have an interest in the new Primaris Marines?

“Year of Slaanesh” > Fulgrim > Emperor’s Children > Fabius Bile > CSM Primaris Marines combo-kits?

That’s how I’d do it if I were GW.

    • Youme

CSM getting Primaris Marines were be dumb as heck. They spent all this time perfecting them over 10,000 years and suddenly they can be cloned by some goofball dude with a syringe? No. Some may turn, but not enough to field armies. No, they’ll need something else for CSM that is as big, demons and such, but not Primaris. It just wouldn’t fit the fluff, and if they tried it would be realy dum.

      • Rafał Pytlak

That “goofball with a syringe” is a literal genius in the field of bio-genetic-engineering with over 10 millenium of practice on the field. He was a master durring the heresy, and since then he made millions of creations. I’d say if there is anyone in the galaxy (at least on Chaos side) who can replicate Cawl’s succes, and be his counterpart “mental chess playing opponent” that person is the Emperor’s Pimp Fabulous Bill himself!

        • Luca Lacchini

I’d be fine with Fabius Bile stealing the method to Primaris-ize existing Marines, it would be a somewhat cheap move (sales-wise) but one that’d fit the background quite well. Fabius is THAT nasty.
Chaos corrupting Primaris without some major turning factor/event, would be a cheap move and nothing more.

          • Fabius would at least adapt it to better suit his vision for humanity, rather than straight-up copying it. In a sense, he’s the real heir of the Emperor in how he attempts to advance mankind to the next evolutionary level, and I can’t see Primaris being that just yet.

        • briandavion

the problem with Fabius bile is it’s hard to do precision genetic engineering in an enviroment where the petri dishes grow legs and walk away

          • Coltcabunny

You clearly need to read the Bile novels, as this is not the case at all. Bile operates out of a Crone World called Urum that is a part university part fortress and home to the disparate and disavowed Apothecaries of the Traitor Legions.

Bile’s work is very precise in fact.

          • Dennis J. Pechavar

            They are actually good stories.

          • Rafał Pytlak

Well he often operates in the material plane for years on

      • Gorsameth

The new Plague marines are already ‘Primaris Equivalent’, I expect new chaos units to follow suit.

      • Nathaniel Wright

Do you know how I know you don’t know anything about Fabius Bile?

    • Vayle
  • Simon Chatterley

What exactly do you need to be to qualify as an Industry professional? Genuinely I’m asking as it’s a bit of broad net really isn’t it.

Are we saying a guy that deals with GW on a peer basis? Like someone who owns a chain of shops etc etc? Or is it some bloke called Geoff who has a YouTube channel that regularly gets 50 views?

Heck, I paint models for a bit of cash every now and again. I believe that makes me an industry professional?

So when I say Squats are coming back in 2018 you better believe me…

    • TenDM

It’s always important to ask. So many of these rumours come down to store managers speculating about rumours they’ve heard online. My local store manager is a great guy, genuinely nice to everyone he meets, but when he says “I’ve heard Fulgrim is the next Primarch to come out” he’s talking about hearing the same rumours we do.

That said if they’re saying the model is done then it’s probably a more legit source.

  • Red_Five_Standing_By

I imagine the Emperor’s Children update will combo with a Slaanesh Daemons update, which will be piggy backed on by AoS to give us a strong story push for both Slaanesh and the Aelves.

  • Rass

I’m so glad that they’re focusing on making new primarch’s instead of focusing on releasing codices for Necrons, Orks, Dark Eldar, and Tau.

    • Gorsameth

Because the 2 are somehow exclusive?
I expect them to keep the speed going and have all existing faction codexes out in time for the 1y anniversary which is a ‘tiny’ improvement from the past where some factions never got their codex in an edition.

  • Shawn Lyons

The CSM codex was awesome. Their miniatures blow. A new range of Emperor’s Children models is what I have been waiting for and will certainly open up my wallet. Until then, the codex is all I have or will purchase.

  • Monkeybrains

I mean we did just get a loyalist Primarch with Sly Marbo, so It’s only fair that Chaos plays catch up now.

  • phobosftw

magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest primarch of all?

  • Laurence J Sinclair

“A Mortarion-like splash”? Oh no, I think that Fulgrim will make quite a different sort of splash.

    • euansmith

      Oh my!

  • Dan Wilson

    PLASTIC KEEPER OF SECRETS?
