They said it couldn't be done. They were wrong. They said it shouldn't be done. They were probably right. Either way, here it is. The Capitol Imperialis is finally built. Twenty-four feet of wooden support structure, twelve "For Sale" signs, over 300 plates and more than 22,000 rivets. Not to mention the countless wood screws, staples, magnets and close to a gallon of superglue. This is by far the largest scratch build project I have tackled. For the most part, I am pleased with how it turned out. There were a few things I would have liked to have done better; there are some alignment problems with the front, the ends of the screws could have been finished off better and not all the armor plates line up exactly. But for a model that is twelve pounds and nearly three feet long, it's not bad.

I am very pleased with how the main cannon turned out. I went with the Malcador style turret to emphasize the age of the Cap Imp.

Special thanks goes out to Crazy Larry for the plasma cannons. I'm not sure what I would have done without his donation.

The exit ramps also turned out well. The stylized hinges and grating really adds a nice level of detail.

Here is a shot with a baneblade to give some perspective. GentleBen has graciously agreed to paint this beast. I sure hope he knows what he is getting himself into.

Now you have to build a Leviathan Command Vehicle
I'm impressed by the size to say the least.
Good going, guys.
Wow. That's a level of madness of epic magnitude.
I'm impressed. And the Emperor will be pleased.
And the Emperor will be pleased
no he wont.....someones made a capitol imperialis model and GW dont get a penny.....hehehe...
good going, fellas! is this bigger or smaller than a leviathan?
Are you going to paint the wheels gold for added bling factor?
That is a big beast to be sure, Capitol Imperialis are the big brothers of Leviathans, right???
yes, the Capitol Imperialis is the bigger of the two.
So will this be done in time for Apocolypse 2? Most impressive
Holy Wookie hair, that thing is huge. It's about to eat that Baneblade as a snack. 3 feet long, are you kidding me? Impressive.
It needs more rivets. OK, just kidding.
Wow. Now all we need is for Big Mek Wotsdis to get a hold of it...
at 3 feet long, infantry that exit the rear hatch will take an entire game to walk to the front :)
Hey how much would it be to rent an apartment inside that thing?
oh lord...save us.
You, sir, are mad!
And madness is precisely what produces the best scratchbuilt models in these parts... so keep our jaws dropping.
Now, 22,000 rivets??? Need some bionic eyes now i guess. ;P
Holy shit, thats a baneblade at the side of that rumbling bunker, building, city. Great work.
May be used excellent as a gamefield part wich should be defended by the imperials in a non Apocalypse game.
(The enemy tries to kill the commandment and send his Elites)
They will fail... muhahahahaaa.
Nicely done! That is quite the project. I look forward to seeing it painted and crushing the enemies of mankind beneath its righteous treads.
Sweet!
That thing looks awesome! Size DOES matter.
Awesome! Love it!! Can't wait to see this baby painted up.
Now go kill heretics!
Looking VERY cool. My only comment would be that the main cannon seems to be a bit too skinny and long. I picture it as a massive, stout gun (at least from the models I've seen). Keep up the good work!
What is it about LARGER miniatures that is so awesome. Isn't the point for them to be small? What is wrong with us that a giant miniature is an oxymoron and yet the rad-ist thing I've seen since MC Hammer.
its very big and yellow
It's a very nice model, but it could be better with more details. In my opinion, it's too smooth...
But very huge!
Wow thats big, well done.
I'm in the process of building an Ordinatus Mars, still trying to work out how big the carrage should be and also trying to make the weapons swappable so can field a Golgatha or Armageddon. Got to love those giant plasma weapons :^)
thas one hell of a big 40k era yellow taxi!
Wow, nice work!
But to be honest: it looks a little bit poor on details... why no imperial symbols on it? no use of the cities of death bulding sprues? A huge vehicle like this would have many many windows, imperial signs/symbols/decorations/flags/ornaments etc.
@ Anonymous building Ordinatus...
The base of it is 3 baneblades, placed end to end, so that gives you a good idea on Carriage scale.
As for this project, i think the shape is good, but that's only like 1/5 of the work, now the detail need to be added.
If its painted as it, it will likely ruin the project. Take the time and use some CoD sprues, cannabalize some guard tank sprues, marine tank sprues, etc, etc.
Looks very good.
One question - why the use of for sale signs? Don't you have a plastic distributor near you - you can usually get more choices of plastic at better prices.
Where are the Jawa crew?
This is Madness!
No, THIS IS SPA.. well, yes, it is madness, actually.
Oh thats so cool/
God, I wish I had the time to do things like this..
Generally if I get a unit from on-the-sprue to covered-in-primer inside a month, I'm making good time.
For those worrying about detail, don't worry. Gentleben has tons of imperial accessory sprues and the Imp Eagle brass etching sheet that he will throw on there. The detailing phase has already been plnned out.
wow... I guess you pretty much have to build either a battleship or the palace of terra to beat this...
nice job!
Weren't it supposed to be bigger? A whole control facility with the possibility of carrying maybe 200 people should fit inside it, no?
I swear that leviathans were bigger. I thought they could have shuttles land IN them and such...
I believe Col. Gravis has a completed Leviathan. pics are at: http://colgravis.blogspot.com/2008/03/leviathan-part-5.html
as you can see, it is made of 2 baneblade hulls for its length. Indeed shorter than a Capitol Imperialis.
Yes, the Capitol Imperialis is larger (much larger) than the Leviathan Command Vehicle.
The Leviathan is no slouch, but is primarily made to house an IG army's senior staff and a small protection force, and provide them with advanced sensor and communications gear (and some big guns.
The Cap Imp is a huge rolling assault transport that can carry an entire IG company (even an armored company)right on through heavy defenses and unleash them where needed under battle conditions.
Take a look at our "Lords of Battle" datafax pdf to see the rules we use for them ans their relative sizes, scaled up from the epic-scale models.
Too bad you can only fire the main cannon OR the sponsons. I imagine the gunner (singular) must be a busy man... You'd think they could fit more people in tanks. Maybe they are too fat from being lugged around all the time.
SWEET MONKEY JESUS THATS A BIG TANK!
Well done! Cant wait to see what it looks like painted!
If it should carry an entire infantry company or maybe a tank company, wouldn't it need to be, scale-wise, twice it's size?
@Orwin- wouldn't it need to be, scale-wise, twice it's size?
well, if the inside is 24" by 12" (just guessing), thats 288 inches^2. If a russ is 4"x6", thats 24 inches^2. So, the first level can hold 12 russes. And, if there are 3 interior levels, thats 36 Tanks. Granted, thats not saving any room for driving, elevaotrs or ramps, but even at half that, its plenty of room.
Trust us, 10 Russes fit easily, we've tested it. :)
You can't really get the scale of it until you see it on the tabletop.
When we get it all super-detailed and painted, we'll post some battle pics with a standard army running around for scale... its enormous.
Remember that is a Baneblade in that lower pic, not a Russ or Rhino.
Great job Bulwark.
You guys never disappoint.
I'd love to see it filled with armoured fist squads (so they don't have to walk all the way from back ramp to the front).
If you take requests, I'd love to see an Ordinatus Mars (spelling?), the one with the huge sonic cannon.
Hi.....also mad and making one too! I'm using the concept sketches that have been floating around concerning a possible new epic version, a lot more gothy with some cool additions. check it out at http://www.tamworth-wargames.net/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=483&hilit=. love to get some feedback on how it's going.
cheers
Is anyone else thinking-It's a yellow sandcrawler

Quote from Imperial Capitolis commander:
"I believe in shooting things with my butt-load of massive guns. If that doesn't work I'll crush them under my massive treads. I'd have a plan C, but everybody's dead by the time I run them over in my big yellow monster of a vehicle . . . Is that a Titan? Oops . . .
I think I ran it over . . ."
