NEWS: Forgeworld Red Scorpion Stuff

Pics brought to the community by Warseer's:bnf

Hi guys, Out of Gameday Germany we get these 2 quick shots of Forgeworld kits for the upcoming Siege of Vraks: Part 2. These two are a Red Scorpions Dreadnought, and what appears to be a set of Assualt Marines in Red Scorpions iconograpy.

~Its always nice to see these guys get some more love.

Alright more red scorpions... that we'll all need to exacto knife the the scorpions off of. More clunky non-dynamic dreadnoughts... it looks really nice just too static.

Rob said...

looks great, i play a chapter which uses the RS armour... minus the scorpion logo's...

Kugelblitz said...

I wish they had not put heads on the new dreads, it takes away some of the scariness.

Anonymous said...

Where did the Red Scorpions originate?

Andrew said...

What the hell are FW thinking. Like we dont have space marines or dreads already? When is the real stuff comming? I'm talking original new models not just re-hashes and add ons of existing?

Hands up who wants an adeptus mechanicus army for example?

cmon guys, get with the program!

NallTWD said...

NO Forge World new stuff AT ALL at Chicago GD then this? No fair.

How on earth does a dread look "dynamic", I mean they really arent suited for anything more dramatic then the standard charge. To make one dynamic all the best minis Ive seen have incorporated a narrative detail - for example the DOW2 trailer had a perfect scene when the dread grabs a Banshee and then torches it.

That's odd that they would be in IA 6 as well as IA 4. I would prefer to see someone fresh get FW love, like the Salamanders or Howling Griffons.

Red_Scorpions

Not much known about the founding, maybe someone got something from White Dwarf?

NLgamer said...

Ah guys isn't the big thing with the RS that they are kinda heresy era armor?

Augie said...

The RS first appeared way back in Rogue Trader and old White Dwarfs. First time I saw them was in the Badab War section in the ol' Compendium.

If you ask me, their paint scheme looks boring compared to what the original was.

But then, I guess I prefer all the old paint schemes versus the "everyone is on parade" ethic.

Nice models. I might be tempted to scrape the scorpion symbols off a few myself... just like I did with that RS Terminator I ordered a couple years ago...

Denzark said...

red scorpions were first early WD - the 40k Compendium. Their boss Carab Culln loathed abhumans and would not serve with ogryns/beastmen/squats with guards armies (the grown ups will remember)

the colour scheme used to be black with yellow rims to the armour - except for a plate of the 'Angstrom Incident Pursuit Squad' in mad red and black zaggy bands - picture the old salamander yellow/black in curvy bands, and go spikey as hell.

This is what my Red scorpions look like. (Carab Culln also thought camouflage and concealment was for girls)

A more dynamic dreadnought would be more like the pre-heresy Horus Heresy Art book dreadnoughts.

Or even how would it look if the armor to either side of the sarcophagus had some articulation or look of shifting. GW did it with the wraithlord they can do it with the SM dreadnought.

I really like the heraldic-type shield on the jetpack harness of the guy in the foreground (lower right). That would be perfect for Black Templars or another heraldry-oriented chapter.

Pretty stuff. But I was hoping for some Dark Angels goodies in IA6, with half the chapter being on Vraks. Maybe an Interrogator-Chaplain model and rules? Or some DA vehicle variants (Mortis Dread redux, Razorback with alternate weapons) as an end-around to bring DA in-line with the next Space Marine codex?

they left Vraks when their mission was completed. I didn't see why they should return.

I like the Assault Marines - the Dread isn't really new...

BOOOOORING. Those are some of the most uninspired FW models I have ever seen. Wake me up when they put out Space Wolves.

CMON FW U GUYS R CRACK ADDICTS!
PLEASE NEW MODELS WE KNOW YOU LOVE SELLING OVERPRICED MARINES TO PEOPLE THAT LACK CREATIVITY
PLEASE THROW SOMETHING NEW LIKE ORDO XENOS OR ADEPTIS ARMY

OR EVEN CUSTODIUS ARMY CUZ THAT WOULD BE COOL NOT JUST MORE BORING MARINES

Ugh. Can someone delete the drivel above me? Kthxbai

At Andrew:
Adeptus Mechanicus all the way Man!! that would be awesome!

He's illiterate, true, but he's RIGHT.

Yawn.

The only thing nice in that entire lot is the helmets. Not worth the price of admission to resin-world, UK. No thanks. If I'm going to fork over that kind of coin for a model, it had better transform into Miyuki the Robo-Panty-Waitress.

More renegades, eldar pirates, rogue trader stuff, something with chutzpah.

More Chaos love!

I like the helmets.

No, he's illiterate AND wrong.

Nurgle Dreadnought
Nurgle Sorceror
Death Korp of Krieg Arkurian-Pattern Super-Heavy Tanks (Three of 'em)
Arkurian-Pattern Conversion Kit
Chaplain Venerable Dreadnought
World Eaters Conversion Kit
World Eaters Terminators Conversion Kit
Chain Axes
Mars-Pattern Reaver Titan
Death Guard Kit
Death Guard Terminator Kit
Death Korp of Krieg Kits (three of them)

This is a list of the stuff FW has on it's NEW STUFF page. It keeps going and going. The only Space Marine thing on there is the Chaplain Dreadnought.
Seriously, don't be a troll.

I want Stalk Tanks and Blood Pact, I know Chaos gets more than its fair share of love from FW but man it would be great to have the stuff from the Gaunts Ghosts novels on the table top..

ForgeWorld simply doesn't work like that. They don't sculpt things based on demand. They sculpt them based on what the sculptors want to do, and Warwick writes a book around it. Most of them are big treadheads (especially Tony Cottrell) so there's a lot of Guard tanks for example. I'd be willing to bet that one of the FW guys has a Red scorpions army, and that's why this stuff is getting done.

Personally I don't mind the fact that they aren't especially commercial in their approach. I think it shows through in the quality of the work and attention to detail. In some ways its more like we're offered the chance to get our own copies of their personal models, than buying products from a range. You can bet if they get a new sculptor who's really into Adeptus Mechanicus, or Dark Eldar or whatever you'll see a range of such models appear.

Have to agree with Pete Mason.

I love the idea behind Forge World. A bunch of hobbyists and gamers who sculpt what they want to and they may sell a few pieces (which is understandably why the prices are so high).

They have a whole host of miniatures that I'd love to pick up. I don't collect Krieg but I have to admit I think their artillery pieces are gorgeous and I'd love to build a First World War-esque army based around them...

The best thing about the Forge World stuff is that it seems that the sky is the limit. If they think it'll make a good mini they sculpt it and see what happens... for example the ridiculously massive Tau flyer, the Manta. The figure is huge, not really playable but it looks amazing. I bet they sell less than a hundred pieces but they should be given an award for letting their imaginations run wild. It brings creativity back into the hobby...

Woo!
More love for my boys!

Love the FW Dreads anyways, but now I have a chapter-specific version, though not quite as cool looking as the BT or DA one...

Nice to get some variation in the torsos too...my army (Vets especially) was starting to look a little 'carbon copy'

To hell with the marines/imperium and chaos, where the frack is the new necron stuff!

YES!

Dreadnought LIGHTNING CLAWS!

FTW SM! Winning move for Forgeworld!

Now waiting for their

Desaster said...

Yeah, Mk.4-assault marines! Nice Move, I hope the set will include some nice arms/weapons to create dynamic poses. Would be nice base to make a pre-heresy assault squad.

Anonymous said...

Haha, Red Scorpions must simultaneously be FW's best selling models and the models least used for their intended purpose.

Anonymous said...

My local store has a sweet red scorpion army!

This FW dreadnought is nowhere as cool as my store's. It has a what looks like a twin linked wrecking ball!

Anyway This dread is pretty cool (nice banner).

NLgamer said...

stalk tanks would be cool. Also I would like to see Dreads with different legs. (chicken walkers, 4 legs and maybe tracks.) A dread with a shield would be cool too.

Anonymous said...

interesting I just went to the FW new stuff page and didn't see any of this.

Anonymous said...

Love Red Scorpions.... of course without their symbols and a little conversion....
then they look like pre-Heresy marines :D

Anonymous said...

I do like the Red Scorpions stuff...and a mate of mine has an army painted, which looks great as it's something different to the norm.

However, i am very disappointed with the assault marines. My sources informed me that FW were going to be releasing this stuff, but with Pre-heresy style jump packs...which would've suited my Fallen Angels army perfectly...oh well, guess it's off to the conversion table for me.

SSG Snuffy said...

Some of you guys mentioned stalk tanks. There's a stat line and a converted model in the latest issue of FIREBASE (Number 7, I believe). It might be worth checking out, if you're interested in a Blood-pact army...

Chris W said...

i like the assault units and will add them when i can afford them. (yes i have Red Scorpions as my third army)

but i must agree with Dwayne. Blood pact heads and torsos and stalk tanks. (its the only way i'll ever do guard units)
