And the full blog post on their website.

Those of you who already collect Spartan’s other games will know that they produce top notch Minatures, and these guys should be just as good.

I look forward to more information this, and to find out what they will be doing with a land based version! (Updated)

The Press Release:

Spartan Games has entered into a License Agreement with Microsoft Corporation to design and produce tabletop miniatures games for “Halo®”, the global entertainment phenomenon. The first products will be on sale around the world through Spartan Games’ sales and distribution channels in 2015.

The award winning “Halo” franchise was first seen on the Xbox in 2001, but has since transcended video games to build a worldwide fan base of millions and inspired best-selling novels, comic books, action figures, apparel and more. Now exciting tabletop miniatures games can be added to the list.

Neil Fawcett, Creative Director, Spartan Games said “Our design team are huge fans of ‘Halo’ and this opportunity is the icing on the cake for them. After six years of successfully creating our own games and models, we can now work with Microsoft to bring epic ‘Halo’ spaceship battles to gaming tables around the world. And if that’s not enough, we’re making fast and furious ground combat games as well. Hard to tell what is more exciting: invading Reach with our Covenant Fleet or assaulting ground defences with Spartans and UNSC Marines?”

Who’s sacrificing their wallet for Halo on the tabletop?

Looks like a big hit to me.

“I look forward to more information this, and to find out if they will be doing a land based version!”

    Literally in the annoucement:

“And if that’s not enough, we’re making fast and furious ground combat games as well.”

Slightly faster than normal (still later than TTGN and other news) but as brilliantly well read as ever BOLS….

    • Gooberbaby

Lol they really just blindly post things without doing even a cursory examination of the content don’t they?

      • Harrower

Sadly yes. Pure copy/paste on most of their news.

        • Well for that one I take the blame, doing too many things at once when I wrote this up… re-reading helps muchly it appears!

    • ..says the guy who didn’t notice this has been on the Gamewire for hours… written up by Spartan themselves.

But hey, why let math & facts get in the way of a good rant.

      • SwervinNinja

Yeah… Nobody reads Gamewire, unless they are sent to it.

      • SwervinNinja

Hey, if the battleship version is anything like Gothic, it could be fun.

    • Harrower

I imagine it’ll be a modified form of their Firestorm Armada rules. Quite fun, and has some similarities to Gothic (though better IMO).

      • V10_Rob

Not played it myself, though it’s on the ‘look into this’ list.

I imagine by this late a date, they’ve worked out most of the kinks in the game’s rules and balance. That being the case, why bother totally re-inventing a system that works? Although I can already imagine people dumping on ‘Halostorm’ for being a shameless mod version to cynically milk the franchise.

    • mikethefish

It’s going to be a new upgraded version of Firestorm Armada – which was already way better than Gothic in most areas

just when you think you can start saving

  • Spookeybookey

If this had come out back in like 2006, I would be loosing my freaking mind right now. Sadly, that ship sailed ages ago. Bit late to cash in on the Halo hype, no?

    • Hahboo

      losing*

      • Spookeybookey

Fine… You win this round, Hahboo, but one day I’ll get my revenge. One day, when your guard is down, I’ll correct your spelling on the internet.

        • Hahboo

I look forward to meeting you on the battlefield again

          • Spookeybookey

(*^_^*)/ would you say that we are now best friends or just very good friends…

          • Hahboo

            Battle Brothers

          • Spookeybookey

Hahboo Chan… clearly there is only one logical course of action from this point onwards – Best friends battle brother sleep over.

          • chris

This thread has now passed the “creepy” line.

          • Hahboo

            You’re invited too!

          • Spookeybookey

Hi Chris, has anyone ever told you that you have the most dreamy eyes…

          • Spookeybookey

…At least from what I can see from your facebook photos…

  • Jake Nolan

If they come unpainted and un-assembled, I’d be a lot more interested, but regardless, I’m interested.

  • TheSlann

    I NEED IT

    nuff said…
no seriously, I started building a CCS Class like 4 years ago, then we stopped developing our game. Well, now I’m in again. 😀

    • TheSlann

Oh, and for protocol, I planned it in scale…. bad Idea, 2cm Destroyers, 8cm Cruisers, 20cm Battleships… well…

  • chris

Spartan games already has all the gaming stuff in place to make this happen. Between FSA and Planetfall, all they really need is to change a few names and the game system is ready to go.

Hats off to them n FSA is a fun game; haven’t had a chance to integrate Planetfall yet but it looks fun too.

Also my main game is 40k, but when I first clicked on the article I caught myself thinking “please don’t let GW be the ones handling this.”

  • Could be awesome, but I dislike how few factions there would be. Just 2-3 doesn’t leave much room for variation.

    • King_Wibble

You could stretch 5 factions, 6 if your lucky and depending on the era. You could have Colonial (Marines), ONI (ODST and Spartans), Prometheans, Flood, Covenant (Brutes) and Arbiter (Elites).

      • Haighus

Don’t forget the Rebels 🙂 They still play a part, even during the height of the Covenant assault on humanity.

      • Avensis Astari

Don’t forget Insurrectionists and Sentinel Forerunner constructs.

    • Haighus

Those factions have quite a lot of variety each though- they are more like real militaries than most Sci-fi forces, with lots of classes of equipment that fill similar roles, but are more outdated/specialised to one aspect etc. so there is actually a lot of variety to be had. I can think of 3 Human-Covenant war-era human frigate classes, a corvette, 2 destroyers, 3 cruisers, several carriers and multiple different fighters and bombers off the top of my head and it would not be difficult to add more that fit the background. The Covenant have even more variety I think.

    • Avensis Astari

      As many as X-Wing, that.

      • mikethefish

Yep that was my thought. Worked for x-wing, apparently

      • And that’s why I don’t play X-Wing.

  • Pablo Martinez

It’s Dropzone Commander with a universe I actually am very interested in!

  • silentRaven

…I’m not into ship simulators…but if they come correct with some relatively well done (and properly scaled) spartans (IIs and IVs), Human soldiers/ODSTs, and Covenant…and they were about in the scale of 40k stuff…I’d buy a 30k Legion army’s worth of Spartans and ODSTs.

  • Avensis Astari

Whether or not this game takes off, I will own a fleet of Charon-class light Frigates and at least one Halycon-class Cruiser.

Hopefully they expand the range, but I’ll be okay with Paris-class frigates and a Marathon Cruiser for now!

  • m3g4tr0n

I’m not that excited, to be honest. Now, a skirmish game similar to Infinity would have been the shizznite.

  • nurglitch

So Firestorm Armada with a mainstream skin?
