Initial Thoughts

So what is there to say about these…  They are “larger than life” and have a “super hero” sense of detail and posing, even by GW Warhammer standards. They have a design philosophy that is much closer than what you see in 40K hero models these days. These are certainly minis meant for greatness and heroic tabletop action, and not sitting in nice neat “no hands sticking out” ranked up units.  The detail and sense of motion is very exaggerated.  From the whips in motion of the Khorne champion, to the “parchment fluttering everywhere” of the upper Sigmarite champion, these are showcase minis meant to impress. The Hero on the “cat-thingy” is basically a scaled-down good-guy version of the Nagash Mortarchs kit.

We will take some time soon to go over the Age of Sigmar rules, but at this point it looks like the game is striding firmly into the “all heroes (and villains) being awesome” world of miniatures, leaving the staid ranked up busybody minis of the past in the dust.  If you go back and look at any of the End Times minis, in retrospect, you can see the new design philosophy clearly.  We just didn’t know where we were headed late last year.
