Geekery: The Lego Batman Returns!

Will Arnett is putting on the tiny plastic cowl for a full length feature… check it out!

Need a palette cleanser after this weekend’s debacle (yes, I saw it… #notmybatman)? I’ve got just the thing for you! Will Arnett’s wry, self referential take on Batman was one of the best things about The Lego Movie… and now he’s getting his own movie, and it looks hilarious.

It’s so awesome they released two full trailers in 3 days…

It looks like Warner Animation is continuing to snag and create all of the decent looking DC projects. This can’t come soon enough.  The spin off will see a awesome cast expansion: Rosario Dawson (Batgirl), Ralph Fiennes (Alfred), Michael Cera (Robin), and Zach Galifianakis (The Joker). Chris McKay is returning to the director’s chair.

Looking forward to the lighter side of Batman?

I wonder if he will sing the opposite song, “Everything is Depressing” Everything is depressing, everything is sad when you are all alone, everything is depressing, etc.

    • This needs to happen.

    • Jonathan B.

“Yeah, yeah. Anyway, you guys gotta check out these new subwoofers I installed in the back. I call ’em the dogs. Listen to them bark! This is a song I wrote for Wyldstyle. It’s about how I’m an orphan.”

    • Me

I would pay for that song.

“If anybody has black parts I need them, okay? I only work in black, and sometimes very very dark grey.”

If you have played the lego dimensions game “guilty, play with my wife, and since i ma a modeler, i tend to like legos”, Batman has some great lines and moments. One of which is “Get off my back…man, I’m Batman” Or when they land on the yellow brick road “We’re not in Gotham anymore…. Ew so much Color!”

  • Me

I guess I am in a minority? While the movie is definitely not a masterpiece, I did not think it was horrible. It certainly did not make the bottom ten for me, or anywhere near it. Maybe it is based on expectations. I saw almost exactly what I expected. I do wish they had done more than cameos for some of the others, but that was my biggest gripe.

Full disclosure: My wife HATED it.

    • I don’t think you’re alone in your enjoyment – it has a decent fan score across the rating sites. I’m glad those who liked it got what they wanted from it. I say that sincerely. Everyone has different criteria when it comes to rating these things, and movies are supposed to be fun. If you had fun that’s f’ing awesome.

I’m with your wife: I think it’s a terrible movie.

  • I just wish the bloody Lego games had online coop instead of same-screen only. Three Lego Batman games, a dozen other movie franchises adapted, and none of them playable with friends across the globe. Now THAT is almost as depressing as having your parents shot before your eyes and getting raised by your butler.
