Warzone: Atlanta is Nov 11th-13th here!  We will be streaming live starting on Friday evening for the Horus Heresy Combat Patrol event.  Here is a link to the FTN Twitch Stream

Hey Everyone,

We deal with the least favorite subject of anyone who owns an airbrush in this episode – Cleaning…   We have some different opinions on how often this is required but we all agree it has to be done.  Except Andrew…

I finally received my November White Dwarf magazine and it continues to impress me.  They are very informative and entertaining.  There is SO MUCH in them that it is almost impossible to digest on the first read through.  They are perfect for for the coffee table or reading room.  If you are not already a subscriber, I certainly understand…  The old White Dwarfs were basically just catalogues and the incarnation before these didn’t pack enough punch for the buck.  These… These are a real honest to goodness magazine worth the time and the money.

There is no break in this show… We are basically jamming all the way through because Paul is nose down in final Warzone: Atlanta prep.  I apologize in advance for the rush job on the edit but I hope you still find the episode enjoyable.

We talk Land Raiders at 54:00

The Finishing Moves segment is sponsored by Gamemat.eu. Their Industrial Terrain set is great and they offer a product that is pre-painted. This, combined with their mats, is a great way to get playing with professional looking game boards fast.

But… There is no finishing moves in this episode!  I regret to say that, but it will back in a double sized episode next week where we will be back to our normal routine.

FTN mostly focuses on Warhammer 40k, but again you will see in the first few episodes we take a severe deep dive into nerdom. These have been a blast to record and I hope they help pass the time for you.

OK, how to you assemble your Land Raider sponsons – forward or back?

  • BloodAngel

I think they make the vehicle look more balanced when they are on the back, BUT, tactically, you would never jump out of a door that is just in front of the muzzle of a cannon. So, if you wanted to be more realistic, they would be in front of the side doors, giving anyone coming out of those doors cover. It’s funny this is under discussion, as I have thought about this many times over the years.

    • 3dken

So true! Game wise, you measure distance from the barrel of the gun to target (unless they changed that in 6th & 7th ed. haven’t played since 5th) why short change yourself? Guns go in front for both reasons! 🙂

    • Jeramy Bailey

Yeah, and the other thing is that if they were getting out to move forward of the vehicle, they would use the assault ramp. But if they are getting out to move perpendicular to the vehicle, it wouldn’t matter, so the weapon forward configuration would be fine. If they needed to move to the rear of the vehicle, then the weapon forward configuration (hatchback?) is best. So, in every scenario, weapon forward is either optimal or, at worst, neutral.

  • Ebsolom

I use LR Redeemers, what do you think? ; )

  • Arcangelo Daniaux

I usually mount them back, exception for the redeemers.

  • Red_Five_Standing_By

Normal Land Raider, I mount in the back. It just looks better.

For the Redeemer and Crusader, they go on front because 2 inches matters a lot more to them than the normal Raider. Of course, they don’t look right but that is a small price to pay.

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

I once saw a guy zig zag his weapons (one in front and one in back). That just felt and looked weird.

  • 301stFeinminsterArmoured

Always forward, it makes more sense.

  • Mitchell

Built a redeemer as a kid, put the turrets on the back…..

  • Rainthezangoose

people putting them in the back like yeah lets put a door in front of this anti tank laser cannon.

  • Josh Watkins

well now as a former Black Templar player I recommend that we fix the annoying immobilization that occurs from time to time by miscellaneous objects like fallen trees and Ork bodies… Seriously the Salamanders are driving though lava but your telling me that a Land raider can become immobilized by the first sapling in a forest …

  • Seb
  • BartTP

Front all the way. There’s no reason to do otherwise.

  • nurglitch

The Land Raider Phobos should month the Lascannons in the front points, it just looks better, works better, and feels more aggressive.

  • Damistar

I mount them in the back because 1) They look cooler, 2) The range on a lascannon is such that a couple extra inches is irrelevant, and 3) Space Marines don’t need the cover, they’re in power armor. Also they’re likely moving forward so it would slow them down having to move around.

    • GiftoftheMagi

Add in that it is easier to deploy a squad and have them assault if you don’t have to worry about having only one front door.

  • Painjunky

    Its irrelevant.
Its been that long since ive seen a land raider on the table.

  • GiftoftheMagi

I knew a guy that (poorly) modeled his lascannons as turrets on top of his Land Raider, clearing all the doors.
