The Book

Fall of Cadia is the first book in the Gathering Storm series. A 136-page hardback narrative campaign book, it introduces the Triumvirate of the Imperium – Celestine, the Living Saint, Tech-priest of Mars Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl, and Inquisitor Katarinya Greyfax of the Ordo Hereticus – and chronicles the bitter battle to protect Cadia from the grasp of Abaddon the Despoiler.

The Rules

Fall of Cadia contains a wealth of new rules content for Warhammer 40,000:

– full rules for fielding Saint Celestine, Belisarius Cawl and Inquisitor Greyfax with any army of the Imperium:
– Saint Celestine confers Act of Faith on nearby units
– Belisarius Cawl confers the Canticles of the Omnissiah on nearby units
– Inquisitor Greyfax brings 6 new Inquisition Tactical Objectives
– the Triumvirate of the Imperium – a formation bringing these three characters together;
– 6 new Ecclesiarchy Relics and 6 Arcana Mechanicum, usable by Adepta Sororitas and Cult Mechanicus forces;
– the Grand Convocation and Imperial Crusade detachments – combine Cult Mechanicus, Skitarii and Mechanicus Knights in one army, and Black Templars and Adepta Sororitas in another;
– Battlezone: Empyric Storms – rules for raging Warp Storm effects, some of which can be quite drastic: potentially removing invulnerable saves, or halving the effective range of psychic powers…
– 4 new Echoes of War missions.

    Look, still no Guard formations…..

    • dinodoc

      Castellans of the Imperium?

    • Matthew

That’s sticking out to me as well! Where are the Cadian’s, considering it is THEIR planet everyone else is fighting for!
(particularly since I have just started a Guard army…)

      • Jacob

Guard did get a small cadian supplement some time ago, guessing that covers it?

        • Matthew

Maybe, but given this is CADIA, surely the CADIAN’s would be more prominent?

          • Randy Randalman

This is only part one of a much longer series that will go into the summer. Every army will get something.

          • Moonsaves

This does seem like the best time to give the Cadians something, though.

          • Daniel Man

Would it be better to grant the Cadians a formation or two when they’re losing their planet or when they inevitably take it back?

          • Aezeal

When the war is so big the space marines and knight households are involved the AM is inconsequential 😀

          • ZeeLobby

Maybe they confused Cadians with Canadians?

          • singing: Blame Canada! 🙂

    • Stealthbadger

This is unfortunate but maybe more will come later in the campaign. Hopefully the one provided is not so points heavy it can’t really be used in a normal 1850 point game. This is bearing in mind you have to pay for at least three armies minimum requirements.

      • Severius_Tolluck

It’s probably omitted just like St Celestine was from her own codex.. because maybe new stuff is coming! Speculation of course.

  • Michael Gellar

With all the rumors about 8th edition, I think we are seeing what will be part of next edition. Mixed army formations (ie Gaurd and SM that are part of the same formation). Very excited about the possibilities.

  • Kevin Maloney

I want to see what the Imperial Crusade detachment actually does. Otherwise, as a Sororitas player, I see no point in getting this book other than rules for Celestine and Greyfax.

    • Well, it’s a campaign book after all. If you’re not into campaigns or fluff, it holds not much value.

      • Daniel Man

It’s like people forget how to read anything outside of the rules and stats…

        • kingcobra668

No, they just like to complain.

        • Don’t get me wrong, I’m not judging him for what he wants. I’m just telling him what the book is about 😉

  • Private Skittles

Give me a new BT Character or model update for #%$@ sakes. They were absorbed like a weak fetal twin into the SM codex right when I got my kits >:o

    • Dumbcow1

I just want a pure BT formation with Crusader Squads….why do I keep being treated as a 3rd class chapter? We are the finest and most proud sons of Dorn!!!

      • Randy Randalman

You’re a second founding chapter, that’s why. Even the Imperial Fists don’t have their own codex. One of their companies has a supplement, but it’s poop.

      • ZeeLobby

It sickens me to say this, but I agree with Randy. Just think the BT days are over (at least for anytime soon). Sad because I still remember how awesome they were back around Armageddon days.

        • Severius_Tolluck

All about those Vows before battle…

        • petrow84

They surely were. I don’t demand a new codex, but it would be a short afternoon’s work to make:
          – a Gladius equivalent with Crusader Squads
          – a Crusading Fleet formation, with vows, instead of chapter doctrines
          – give Helbrecht finally his orbital strike, like it fits to a crusade-flee based chapter’s master

  • “Can recycle destroyed infantry”?
    Wooooowww…. wait…

    • Eisai

From Imperial Guard, Soraritas, and Space Marines. On Warhammer Community they hinted something like “on a roll a troop choice will come back”
I am afraid of some overpowered compos. Small squads coming back from table edges, or heavy weapon squads respawning. Some cheese will be seen here.

  • Huntard

So is it just me or does giving Skitarii, Cult Mech and Imperial Knight vehicles the Power of the Machine Spirit special rule do a lot of not much?

The only vehicles are: Knights, Onagers, Sydonian Dragoons and Ironstrider Balistarius.

Dragoons only get 1 gun (as an upgrade), Ironstriders only get 1 gun, Knights have split-fire from being superheavy walkers. Onagers at most have a heavy stubber (bought as a vehicle upgrade) in addition to their main gun unless it’s an Icarus array and most of the time there aren’t enough fliers to justify using PotMS on it.

    • Randy Randalman

There’s also a chance PotMS will be different in 8th…

    • Nikolai Ringsted

The smart thing about Onagers having PotMS is that you can mix weapons in one squad to get 4+ invul and both target fliers with your anti-air and use neutron blasters or whatever on the ground 🙂

      • Stealthbadger

Does that work though? I thought PoTMS was simply split fire as an option I.e. One model can target something different with one weapon not one model can shoot at a wholly different target.

At best wouldn’t it only allow one of the three anti air weapons to target a flyer. This is still better then nothing, I’m just curious about its full effect.

        • Nikolai Ringsted

If it counts as 3 weapons then you just declare the flyer your primary target 🙂 As I see it is it better than split fire as it allows each model to fire a weapon on a different unit, so the three onagers can fire at 4 different targets. The wording of PotMS: “In a turn in which the vehicle neither moves Flat Out or uses Smoke Launchers, the vehicle can fire one more weapon at it’s full Ballistic Skill than normally permitted. In addition, this weapon can be fired at a different target unit to any other weapons, subject to the normal rules for shooting”

          • Stealthbadger

ah I think it just clicked. So each onager uses PoTMS to select a separate target. I was thinking this was odd as onagers tend to have just one weapon but the neutron laser has the stubber and you could just give them all stubbers.

So declare target one as the units target, fire all three stubbers and two of the AA weapons. Then use PoTMS to use the neutron laser (or whatever the primary weapon is) on two onagers for two separate targets. Lastly you can use the final AA weapons to plink a flyer.

  • kingcobra668

“I must complain at every opportunity!”

    • Nyyppä

Well, garbage is garbage. Noting that something is garbage when that something is garbage is not a complaint, it’s just pointing out a fact.

      • kingcobra668

        Complain, complain, complain.

        • Nyyppä

Dude, if facts are complaints to you you must have had really bad time when you were in school or your teachers really sucked at their jobs.

      • orionburn

“You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means”

        • Nyyppä

You don’t know what “garbage” means?

          • orionburn

What you call facts others would call your opinion.

          • Nyyppä

Ok. They have an opinion. Many people do. Why is this remarkable?

          • Tomoyuki Tanaka

Because you seem to pass off your opinion as fact.

          • Nyyppä

My opinions are opinions too. Facts are still facts.

    • mreindl

Not a complaint, just an observation. It’d be akin to the Curse of the Wulfen book having no SW formations in it. I’m not sure where they’re going to include them (if they are in future books) since it looks to me from the fluff that there’s not going be a Cadia to be reclaimed.

Plus, I’m not a Guard player, so just thought it was strange.
