The Latari Elves are coming to Runewars and they are bringing the nimble and ferocious Leonx Riders with them!

Fantasy Flight Games brings the teasers once again with another look at the Latari Elves and their might Cavalry option: The Leonx Riders!

via FFG

None exemplify the primal, wild nature of the Verdelam more than the Leonx Riders. Charging into battle atop their ferocious Leonx, large felines native to the Aymhelin, these Elven warriors pierce through enemy lines with the force of a storm, only to use their lightning speed to evade counter-blows and change their angle of attack with the swiftness of a gale. Each half of the pair trusts each other with its life, and the bond a Leonx shares with its rider is akin to family. In battle, these wild riders coordinate their movements as one, fusing Elven skill with the predatory instincts of one of the most fearsome beasts in the world.

Stat-wise, these riders aren’t particularly tough with 2 armor and 1 wound – however, don’t let the lack or “beef” fool you. They can hit pretty hard with 1 red die and 2 blues. Combine that with their surge options and they make for a reliable option vs ranked-up infantry or lone characters. Adding a hit can help them knock down more infantry or push past a hero’s defenses. Alternatively, their other surge option inflicts a mortal strike. Combine all that with Impact 1 and they will be pouncing on the enemy with a brutal efficiency.

Their command dials also hint at just how deadly and fast they are. First off – note the fact that none of their actions detract from their movement. They never lose their speed! Next, take a look at their move initiatives because they will allow you to either move early or late in the round. That can make the difference with a successful counter-charge or getting the jump on a target unit. Finally, take a good look at their mobility options which are going to cause your opponent’s some serious headaches. If you need to cover lots of ground you could opt for the 4 march + 2 march action. If you wanted to shift around and get into a good flank spot, you could opt for the 1 shift + 1 shift or maybe 1 shift + reform. This unit will be one of the scariest threats on the flanks and the have the ability to get there!

The Raven Tabards upgrade card will be included in the Leonx Riders Expansion. It is just one of twelve cards that will be included in that box. But you can see from the upgrade that it’s going to be very useful. Decreasing the initiative of their blue actions by 1 means that they will move even earlier in the round. I can’t think of another unit in that game that will be able to move that far, that soon in the initiative order. The Leonx Riders are swift and deadly and they are heading your way soon!

The Latari Elves Army Expansion is up for Pre-order now, the Leonx Riders Expansion is slated for release in Q3 of 2017!
