Primaris Captain

Primaris Librarian

White Dwarf July 2017

Farsight: Crisis Of Faith (Hardback)

Looks like the Primaris Captain is coming with a pair of heads to choose from along with some different weapon options…

  • UltimateCrimson

The Librarian looks awesome, but I gotta pass based on the price.

    • If the two together cost as much it would be almost reasonable but at this price?
      Never.

    • Killer Bee

My local GW shop sells one of these miniatures for $60AUD, thats $46US. As an ex player and a parent of a 2 teenage boy, no thanks GW. I’m not stupid and there are better games out there now.

  • Visgluigers

The models are cool and all… But there is not almost any extra bits and options. IF it would come up with the full arsenal of different gear and upgrades it could be justified but the cost is just ridiculous in my opinion.

    • Anthony Combs

They will your looking at the new standard for Marines. GW sells models best way to sell models is to invalidate all the old models the new grav tank is the new land raider. One maybe two years they’ll start phasing out the entire space marine line

      • Munn

Like they did with RT marines?

        • memitchell

I know that’s an incredibly sage comparison. But, RT marines went away when they switched from crude plastic to metal. And, then again when they switched from lead to pewter. And, again when they switched from pewter to plastic. This is a switch from smaller to larger. It’s not driven by technology and materials changes. But, even if the comparison is fundamentally flawed, keep making it. So sage.

          • SWISSchris

Was about to say the same thing. Even the metal RT era marines (one piece metal bodies inclusing arms and weaspons) largely disappeared from retain shelves shortly after 2nd ed was introduced to make way for the metal bodied plastic arms ones.. With only a few of the more recently released characters surviving. Soooo… actally exactly like they did with RT marines.

  • Horus84cmd

That Librarian has of the coolest looking helms! In fact the Librarian is awsome as whole. The Captain is nice enough too.

  • Looks like somebody from a previous “first look” of these miniatures got their wish: Helmet options for the Librarian.

  • Jay DeJarnett

I’ve started playing 40K again. They’re cool and I like the Primaris. marines. That $35 bucks is hard to swallow though. That’s the same price as a heavy warjack for the other game I play or 5 less than a whole tactical squad.

    • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

I’ve been getting back into SAGA and my whole new Viking army cost less than one of these figures. 44 plastic 28mm Vikings cost me £18 and a blister pack of 4 berserkers were £6.

      GWs prices are simply crazy.

      • kloosterboer

Saga is a sweet, sweet game. Bolt Action is fun as well.

        Whatever you play, enjoy it!

        • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

Thank you, I wish you the very same!

    • Dennis J. Pechavar

Tech Priest Dominus $36. Love the model but don’t play Mechanicus, I used to buy random models as I love to paint and some models just call you. 36 for a single small based guy means no purchase. GW priced itself out of my range for the most part. Too bad as I like 40K. Love 30K and miss fantasy.

  • Oggthrok

I’m a little surprised how hard the price is hitting a lot of people. It’s not that I don’t agree – I most definetly do. But, with $30 librarians on the market, and $40 Kharn, I’m used to what GW thinks a single miniature is worth lately. As others have said though, keep your eyes out for some sort of combo box in the future – GW has a way of putting these super expensive minis in cheap boxes. For example, Gorechosen is why my Blood Bound have characters beyond what came in the starter…

    • BrassWitch

I don’t really get this reaction either, gw characters have been priced at $30+ for a good while now. It’s not like i think it’s a good price (it’s definitely not) but everyone is acting like it’s some crazy new thing.

      • Killer Bee

in Australia these new miniatures are $46US each …..

  • Scott Adams

People complaining about characters being 10$ or so more… try budgeting? Skip eating out one time per month. Bam you’ve made the difference now go buy a model.

    • Michael Bradbury

Some people can’t afford to eat out once a month, let alone pay £22.50 for one ‘infantry’ model.

      • Scott Adams

They need a career change or lifestyle change then.

        • Foxdonut

Well, i’m in the military, and the UN kinda frowns on non governmental navys sooo…..

          • Scott Adams

Well thank you for your service sir. Sincerely.

    • Hussein Alobaidi

Still though, the character models are just creeping up in price, it’s hard to swallow such a steep price point for one model where for the same price or a little more you can buy a whole squad of something with loads of options and customisation. (My example being the new Genestealer cult range, such as the Neophyte Hybrids, gorgeous models, loads of options and I can make 10 of them!).

Kharn was £22, now these new Primaris models have crept up to £22.50. Just a bit of a slap in the face.

I do 100% agree with your budgeting idea however.

      • Scott Adams

Yea price creep is real in nearly every industry. Look at the price of base model Tacoma pickups… Ahhh ma gawd!

    • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

Or play a better, cheaper game.

  • Hussein Alobaidi

    Bad pricing, it’s insulting actually

  • SilentPony

So when are the Primaris marines gonna have replaceable shoulder pads?! Promises were made

    • Horus84cmd

Errrmm…one would imagine whenever then multi-part kits are released? WH-Com said they’re getting them, they’ve never said when. My money would be on late July or August time; roughly when the Redemptor Dread and Repulsor Tank are expected.

    • Batzorig

Right now, these kits have separate shoulder pads

  • Corsair6

The models look great, but when I looked at the price tag I almost choked on my coffee. That’s insane! I get the whole premium price for a premium model, but that is getting a bit much

  • Yay, my new White Dwarf is late again 🙁

    • Horus84cmd

How? Its only on pre-order. If you’re a subscriber then it should arrive Monday onwards. I usually get mine on the Monday or Tuesday of pre-orders going live (UK Based).

      • el_tigre

It’s supposed to show up the last friday of the month, or that’s what my subscription said when I paid for it. Mostly GW just suit themselves tho.

        • Horus84cmd

True enough; that what was said when I signed up for mine too. But the WD can’t be “late” per-sae if it has only just gone on order. Like last month it was “late” as they moved the date to coincide with the 40K 8th Launch – which WH-Com announced and this would knock on to Julys. The publication date is the publication date at the end of the day and have the right to move that around to suit their product schedule; Junes issue said July’s issue is on sale Friday 7th.

  • Rafał Pytlak

When a hardcover book is cheaper than 1 mini, know that’s something going on…

  • Sleeplessknight

It’s overpriced right now, but later when they bundle it in one of their bigger boxes like those getting started sets you’ll go “what a deal!”

  • usGrant7977

The monocle targeter thingy on the captain looks like hot steampunk garbage. The yellow bathrobe on the librarian is mumu hideous. I do like the electric, midnight blue color scheme IS actually better than the old blue. Sooooo….4 outta 10, I would recco-meh.
