40K RUMORS: More Primaris Vehicles/Kits On the Way

With the announcement of a Primaris Superheavy – word is doing the rounds of more goodies from Forge World.

Just yesterday news broke of the new Astraeus Superheavy Grav Tank for the Primaris marines.

Primaris Rumors

An industry insider tells BoLS Forge World has more minis in the pipe.  Here’s the rumor:

  • “More Primaris vehicles & infantry upgrade kits are in process from Forge World.
  • A small flyer is coming, roughly equivalent to the Xiphon or Lightning.
  • Look for variants for the Repulsor tank (most likely new turrets options).
  • Redemptor will be getting new weapon kits. (everyone love new Dreadnought weapons)
  • Defensive upgrade kits for Gravis armor.”

Thoughts

The only one that seems odd is the all new flyer. Forge World does kick out new kits for the main 40K game, but has been bogged down with the Horus Heresy line so long not I kind of forget they still can do things like this for 40K.  Of course that Super-heavy is one big piece of evidence that they can still surprise.  The others on the list are FW bread and butter. They have a long history of knocking out weapon and turret upgrade kits, and the Repulsor would look amazing with some less busy turret options up top. The Repulsor is basically the Nouveau-Land Raider and we all know how many variants it got over the years.

~What variants would you want for the Repulsor and Redemptor?

  • Simon Chatterley

I’d have to mod this to have round repulsor discs like the hovercraft from the Matrix and “lightning” them all up. Which seems a lot of hassle so I’ll probably just not buy it.

Hope everyone feels relieved now they know this.

I miss the Grim Darkness of the Far Future

    • Motski

I miss the discussion section at BOLS being used for discussion instead of endless moaning and whining

      • el_tigre

Be the change you want to see in the world.

        • ZeeLobby

He’d rather moan about moaning thank you!

      • zeno666

        Then stop your whining.

        • memitchell

Or, make it a fine whine.

          • Severius_Tolluck

            goes well with cheese

          • Muninwing

plenty of opportunities for cheez with Primaris…

      • WhenDidVicesBecomeVirtues

An individual’s criticism and/or personal opinion that differs from yours is not whining.

Indeed, now its all Lego and Disney.

Except…..even though all the tanks/technology etc.. are “new”, ALL Cawl has done is blended existing and ancient Heresy-Tech. Its not like he did it overnight, given it took 10,000 of years of work. Plus he had a butt load of help from information learned from his time assisting the Emperor in the creation of the Space Marines and from the blueprint plans left behind by the Emperor in the Sangprimus
      Portum.

The Imperium and Adeptus Mechanicus have always made progress forward in the background, ever since Rogue Trader days. It has just been really really slow and steeped in fear, control and skepticism of past disasters.

      • Jonathon Runge

The problem is that in the real world it was done effectively overnight. Cawl just popped up and starts handing out new stuff. He has his hands in too many projects and did not have the establishment in the lore to fit in. If it had been that the Dragon of Mars was waking up vaults from the Horus Heresy I think it would have gone over better. Cawl being a puppet of the Dragon would also make for a better explanation of the origin of the Primaris marines.

        • I_am_Alpharius

“In the real world” Haha funny, whatever you say chief….I didn’t realise that the passing of “made up” 40K time was intrinsically linked to “real world” time.

Lore is not Lore until its created by GW. Saying it doesn’t have “establishment” in lore is absurd for a universe that get new stories added on a monthly basis.

          • Muninwing

“in the real world” is in the customer/player’s sense of time.

to us, it was created immediately, and retconned clumsily. usually when new stuff is added, it is not crammed in forcefully but expanded from existing points of reference.

          • I_am_Alpharius

            Whatever you say bud.

          • Jonathon Runge

Part of the appeal of settings like Warhammer 40k, Star Wars, Star Trek, and any other ongoing IP is the continuity and internal consistency. Midichlorians for example are so reviled and contradictory to depictions of the Force they have not been mentioned since. If you want to introduce something to a setting you need to develop it within the continuity. restrictions within a setting give character much like a Mary Sue’s effective invulnerability and hyper competency makes them boring. When there is no lead up or foreshadowing the introduction of world or galaxy shaking changes comes across as deus ex machina because it is. That is why I dislike Primaris Marines and Cawl. There is no background for them and then they show up to save the Imperium. Thunder Warriors, the Dragon of Mars, and even just having forge worlds sharing their STCs would be an in game explanation for returning old technology and new super soldiers for the Imperium. Even the Alpha Legion could work in returning Guilliman from near death stasis.

          • Spacefrisian

I happen to just seen episode 19 season 3 of original Star Trek, Kirk and crew meet a man born in Mezopotamia roughly 3000 bc, sounds familiar?

      • Muninwing

10,000 years, magically, overnight. that’s the problem with using deus ex machina — it feels contrived. justified.

like if they invented a 13th primarch and inserted said primarch into the HH and lore now. who cares if the new stuff says “he was always around, but he kept silent,” it would still feel shoehorned in.

      • Crevab

Cawl is probably one of the most egregious examples of retcon in fiction. Including all the way down to deviantArt Sonic OCs. I can understand people glossing over it for their new toys but I don’t understand the support of gw’s lack of respect for their own setting

        • I_am_Alpharius

“gw’s lack of respect for their own setting”

What an exaggerated and absurd rational. Retconning by inserting bits and pieces to the fiction, throughout the 40K timeline, is what GW have being doing since day one – this is nothing new. Heck, that little story point called the Horus Heresy started out as a single through away passing sentence; as a reason Imperial Titans we fight Imperial Titans for Adeptus Titanicus as GW literally could not afford to manufacture two different sets of Titans! There was not the slightest notion of a civil war happening with the Imperium’s history, or that it involved SM vs SM. It was simply non-existent until that point. You even might say it was “egregiously” retconned in with a lack of respect for their own setting…..

          • Crevab

oh good we agree on their terribleness

          • I_am_Alpharius

Oh hahaha you so funny…oh wait…

        • zeno666

Yeah that character is quite laughable

    • Randy Randalman

It’s never been as grim or as dark as people romanticize. Seemed that way because they were twelve at the time.

      • Sonic tooth

        Classic randy

    • Everybody does.

      • Crevab

Eh, I’ve seen plenty of people happy with GI Joe versus Cobra Chaos
        :/

  • evilazzaMachine

    meh lol

  • BloodAngel

~What variants would you want for the Repulsor and Redemptor?

    Plastic.

  • pokemastercube .

a 2nd close combat arm for the redemptor for BA and SW chapters as they like close combat dreads

  • Darkcat

    Yay more Primadonna marines…

  • Chris Hateley

    *sigh*

  • spla5hmummy

Id like to replace the redemptor fist with a ranged weapon. A lascannon option would be nice.

  • I_am_Alpharius

Is this really rumours or just a list logical kits FW could do, especially given their history of doing upgrade kits for all sorts of Space Marine (and other armies) units?

    • phobosftw

you say pohtaytoe, I say pohtahtoe..

  • Marco Marantz

Primaris are getting blown off the table by the new Guard so expect new shinies with buffed rules.

    • zeno666

We all know how GW works. So there will be no suprise when they push Primaris over the OP line once they can stand on their own legs.
Thus all space marine players would have to buy new stuff to have a chance to win games.

The new GW, same old GW still.

      • Marco Marantz

Clearly you’ve played this before 😉

        • zeno666

Haha yeah I have been watching GW pissing on their players since 2nd ed.

  • ZeeLobby

Saweet. 40K always needed a Stormcast army.

  • kaptinscuzgob

gotta do something instead of making new models for other armies i guess

  • SWISSchris

Obtain shoe box, add turret, profit.

  • Kinsman

So long as they’re not all as ugly as that new tank. Goodness, it’s hideous.

  • Richard Mitchell

Sell an OP superheavy in the hopes that it will move Primaris marines off of shelves. (80’s slow clap) Good job, good job.

    • Jonathon Runge

I’ll just paint it gold and claim it for my custodes. “The very existence of gold makes all other colors equally inferior.” – The Emperor text to speech.

  • Gamecock13

I was concerned for a second GW wouldn’t focus on SMs.

  • nope none

Why not just dump the xenos races entirely and just make everything horus heresy era. That’s what the entire player base wants right? Marketing said so right?

  • Mad Max

    All i read here is,

    dear 30k players,

    get bent.

    Disrespectively FW,
    Care of GW.

PS, snowflake marines, best marines, vroom vroom, pew pew, supa tanks and more toys.

    • BrianDavion

yeah how DARE FW produce a kit for something that isn’t the HH. seriously complaining about FW doing that is like a space marine player complaining that GW has released a kit for another faction

  • Geil

    Prismaris Rino/Razorback.
    … thats all I need.

  • Damir Setanta

They are REPLACING the SM product line with primaris marines, by the next edition they will have enough models to do so. A new horus heresy including Cawl and the primaris is probably in the works as a fluff explanation for the switch. It is a really sleazy business tactic and a great injustice to all the consumers.

    • Jonathon Runge

The introduction of Prumaris Marines convinced me to go for Custodes instead of space marines. They just dont look right for 40k and have bad lore. 30k is much more appealing at yhis point. I hope they don’t include Cawl in the Horus Heresy unless it is to reveal he was working for Horus. Maybe make him into a group of hereteks who use the name as cover and worship the Dragon of Mars instead of the Omnisiah.

  • Jack Boland

    rip grim dark and 40k.

  • GiftoftheMagi

The debate I have with Cawl ‘suddenly’ having all these toys ready to go, is not so much that he could not have the toys, but the number of the toys and no hints of the scope of it.

I don’t have a problem with them introducing these items a few hundred years after Booty-Man came back, but I do have a problem with the numbers. Thousands of fully stocked and rearmed Chapters. Thousands of ships, tanks, support out of NOWHERE. Cawl didn’t have whole Forge Worlds to make his stuff, he basically did it in his garage in secret and usually without a clue as to what he was doing for centuries.

I would be ok with the new units and vehicles as rare choices. Eltie or 0-1 units you can take with your Marine armies to represent just how new, special and rare they are…and let the players know that yes, the Marines they spent 10+ years collecting still matter. But not entire Chapters on the other side of a massive nigh-uncrossable rift.
