If the Elite: Dangerous RPG is anything like the video game, prepare to settle in and find fuel-efficient trade routes through protected space, while you slowly travel back and forth between star systems, ferrying cargo that’s marginally less expensive in one place, and marginally more expensive in another.

If you keep that up long enough, eventually you can afford to upgrade to a bigger cargo ship or maybe…maybe a starfighter. At that point though, you’ll realize everyone else is a better pilot than you.

Although to be fair, Elite: Dangerous the RPG does feature space flight and even dogfighting combat, it also offers up a platform for Sci-Fi adventures that promise intrigue, action, adventure, and excitement. And also cargo. Because this is still Elite: Dangerous, and I would be remiss if I did not link to you the Supertrader Sourcebook which has rules for hauling cargo and figuring out profits, markups, and more.

No really though. Whatever else you can say about the game and its system, it definitely captures the Elite: Dangerous experience.

Just shift 40 tons of superconductors to Curtis Outpost in Ross 1057. What could go wrong? Except for stopping to rescue orphans from a burning ship, being held up by anti-corporate freedom fighters, discovering a banned alien animal amongst the cargo pods, repairing your sparking Frame Shift Drive, discovering that your cargo is actually a narcotics shipment and fighting off a corrupt police force. Anyway you made it. Is now a good time to tell you that your buyer is dead and that the station has been set to explode?

Who’d be a trucker?
