Welcome to another “This Week in 40K Podcasting,”

Here is this week’s top 5!

***Time Off Alert*** Please note I will be off next week for the holiday and may run a bit late the following week for the same reason.

Preferred Enemies – Episode 16 ***Explicit***

Highlights: This week the cast is joined by Dustin and the boys are talking all about the new Necrons! Dustin is their resident Necron expert and they open up talking about some of the fixes and nerfs that have come to the Necons with this new codex. They then move on to talk about the new fluff of the Necrons and some of the new interesting story arcs of each of the Special Characters. They then move on to cover the Necron Special rules and what they can do to change the game, and the battlefield! Next, they then run down each unit in the Codex, giving a brief description and some of their tactical ideas of uses for each. They then go over the Special Character and some of the Night Fight denial tactics and other special rule fun of the HQ units. They close out the show by discussing what they have been doing lately in the hobby and painting.

Opinion: Such a good episode this week, with some really in-depth coverage of the new Necrons. I think the guys did an excellent job covering the entire codex and exposing some of the neat tricks that this book will bring. Outstanding work guys!

40K UK – Episode 30 ***Explicit***

Highlights: This week the guys are all about Necrons! After some announcements in the beginning of the show the guys move into Operation Codex as they look into this new army. They start off with their first impressions of the army and what they each feel will be the highlights of this Codex. They move on to talk about how this Codex ‘looks’ like it was built for the upcoming 6th Edition of 40K. They then move on to a review of each of the Special Characters in the book, starting with the big one, Imotekh and his Night Fight manipulation fun! Next up was Zahndrekh and all of the USR he can dish out and take away and his beat stick life partner Obyron! They then cover the super Cryptek: Szeras and how he can buff units in your army. Next up was Orikan and his self-alteration powers followed by Anrakyr and his Tank Controlling powers! They then cover Trazyn the Infinite and his ability to count as a scoring unit. After covering all of Special Characters, the guys go over the stock HQ choices in the army, the Overlords, Destroyer Lords, the Command Barge, and all the fun contained within the Royal Court. They go really in-depth with the multiple possible tactics that the Royal Court can add to an army.

Opinion: This was an awesome show, and to date the most complete review of the Necron HQ choices. I am really looking forward to hearing the rest of the review of this codex, as I am sure they will dig up all of the secrets of this Codex. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to learn about the Necrons. Great work guys, really looking forward to next week.

Turn 8 – Episode 11

Highlights: This week Rich, Opy and Bill open up the show with what they have been doing in the hobby lately. This included models built, painted, books read and some games played. Then, in ‘This Random Time Period in 40K’ the guys talk about some of the other new releases from GW that was not Necrons. Also they talk about some new Forgeworld releases, and they cover some rumors of new models coming. They close out this segment with some local news. Next, the guys do a review of this year’s Mechanicon, and they give a brief overview of the event and their impressions of the grand tournament there. After that, the guys move on to this week’s Battle Report. They open up the segment by talking about the armies in play, the lists, and some of the table and mission setups. This week was a 1500 point game between Space Marines and Eldar. Then was the dramatization of the battle between these two great armies followed up by a tactical review of the battle. Next, the guys review Space Marine DLC Exterminatus, the expansion to the Space Marine video game. They talk about what has been added to the game and the Multiplayer experience and if the Horde Mode was really good or not. They close out the show with “Rules of Engagement” and this week they discuss Tank Shocking and Ramming.

Opinion: Easily one of the shows I look forward to most with each release, I love the battle reports, and this one had a cool surprise ending. The review of Space Marine DLC Exterminatus was pretty good, but their review of Mechanicon was much better. It is a shame that they did not attend the tournament, but still had a good review. And ‘Rules of Engagement’ is great for both vet and noob. Overall, a great show guys! Nice work!

The Independent Characters – Episode 41 ***Explicit***

Highlights: This week Carl and Geoff review the new Imperial Armour: Apocalypse 2nd Edition. They open up the show with a few announcements before going on to their review of the Comikaze Expo. They talk about all of the amazing things that they were lucky enough to see at this great event. They move on to talk some about the little amount of hobby time they did have and their games played. In the next segment the boys dive into Imperial Armour: Apocalypse 2nd Edition, first by giving a review of the look and feel of this new book itself. They talk about the stamps of Formations, Apocalypse, and the most interesting 40K stamps on units in the game! They talk about using Forgeworld models and rules in game and do you still need permission from your TO/opponent? They talk about what rules they feel would work in 40K and what they disagreed with. They then move on to talk about units in the book that they really liked and look forward to using. They also talk about some of the stuff that has been updated and/or fixed since the last edition. Next up was a new segment entitled “Units that change the game”, and this week the guys look at Thunderhammer Stormshield Terminators and their effect on the rest of 40K. They then move on to another new segment entitled “Mission Impossible” where each week they add a new mission to 40K and this week they introduced the Valley of Kings! They close out the show with an interview with Daryl from KR Multicase and they talk about some of their new products and how they develop their cases.

Opinion: This was another great show from the Independent Character, I absolutely love their outstanding Imperial Armour reviews, and this one was no different. They go quite in-depth and discuss the rules and cool units contained in this rulebook. It is a shame that this particular book did not really have much in the way of story, which I feel the ICs excel at, but they still did a great job of covering the book. Awesome work guys!

The Overlords – Episode 74 ***Explicit***

Highlights: This week the guys are joined by Sam once again and they open up the show with the 11th Company’s Musical Number about the ‘Win at all cost gamer’. After that the guys move on to local Overlords news, before going on to what they have been up to lately in gaming, reading and in the hobby. Next, Commissar Random takes over with his ‘Uplifting Primer’ and this week he discusses the benefits of Speed Playing. They also discuss some of the things that can be done to help speed up a game, like movement trays and dice rollers. Then, in ‘Steve’s Round Table’, the guys discuss their recent Double Take Tournament. They talk about how this was a fun tournament and less competitive, cut-throat event. They review some of the good times had at this friendly team tournament. To close out the show, Steve and Dagmire help out their forum friend Doelago by building him a balanced Grey Knights list with a Paladin squad, some Purifiers, and some Inceptors. They go over the full 1500 point list and the story it is based on.

Opinion: This was a good show from the Overlords! The 11th Company musical number is hysterical, and I recommend it to anyone reading! The subject of speeding up the game and aids to help do so was great and the guys had a lot of great ideas. The Grey Knight list was a breath of fresh and not loaded down with Dreds, and for the record, Ciaran I love ya man! Great show guys!
