Shortage-of-Robots

Goatboy here again and the birds are chirping about an upcoming Tau release as the next book coming out after this Age of Sigmar dies down.

I am hopeful for this as Tau need some work to help bring them above a random formation ally or bullet technology for a lacking army.  I don’t see the book getting as nutty as the Eldar or Necrons but I do expect some rocking formations to get our “competitive” blood boiling.  Let’s look at the top 10 ideas I think will come out with the new book.

10. Decurion Company Free Stuff
I expect the Tau’s formation either to get a massed preroll 1’s like ability or some other kind of super shooting option.  I also wouldn’t be surprised to see a dual Battle Company like option that gives you free transports to spend your hard earned money on.  Devilfish for the simple cost of buying a ton of models.  Heck I wonder if you take a basic force and get all upgrades free.  Or just a bunch of free leadership knives.

9. Farsight Formations
I expect the Farsight supplement will end up getting the Inyanden cut.  I can see some specific suit formations that look like some of the supplements extra rules/minis.  They will probably have some crazy rule where they are Twin Linked when they Deep Strike in or have benefits to coming down from the sky.

8. Special Suit Upgrades will be like Relics
You can only choose one per “character” I expect.  I am not sure what will end up going away with the most likely culprit being ignore cover.  The Marker lights do that just as well and I have a feeling Marker Lights will have some kind of change and bonus.

7. Finally get a non-leaning Tau Commander
The rumors say a new one and here is hope we don’t have to worry about our finecast commander looking like he is going to win a limbo contest.

6. Marker Light change
I think for the better with less a need to remove counters to get abilities and instead everyone can shoot at this one thing better.  Gives you more of a reason to have different units with Marker Lights and you can spread the pain out.  I am guessing +1 to shoot or reroll one’s with each Marker Light.

5. They will get a Dirty D.
I expect the Railhead to shoot some kind of single D Shot.  Heck I wouldn’t be surprised if the Riptide can overcharge into a single shot of some sort.

4. Vespids?
Maybe they will get good?  Maybe they will be a good counter assault unit?  Maybe I’ve been drinking too much?

3. New Suit with new Upgrades
They are going to have some kind of new gun that will match up with the new Tau Knight.  Something to do with those weird shoulder guns and some kind of mini rail or rail like technology.

2. Riptides are probably not going to change.
They are still good but when you compare them to a Wraith Knight or other good MC’s (Hive Tyrant/DP) they just don’t have as much umph.  Still I expect them to lose some “upgrades” but for the most part stay the same.  Maybe they will get new “powers” if they over charge.

1. Maybe a new counter assault Suit upgrade.
I still think a cool set of suits that maybe dealt with Orks with Farsight and become decent in close combat.  Either they have some kind of rending blade or some other assault options.  All their weapons are close range, heavy influence on fusion weaponry and really just change up how you think Tau should play.

Here is hoping Tau have a bunch of cool changes and don’t get a Grey Knight redux.  It’s a weird army as they are specifically built to get hurt by an opponent engaging in close.  With the Dark Angels having a powerful “overwatch” ability and other armies just getting a lot tougher to break through their saves it becomes a lot harder for Tau to compete.  I always liked the idea that they have other “races” to help out but I don’t expect GW to invest that much into making new kits for the army.  I see some new clam pack characters and new Suits as those appear to be needed and easily enough to add to the range.  I also enjoyed painting the Riptide and I think some new Tau Crisis suits that remove the whole “surprised” leg feature will be awesome.

What do think GW will put into the new Tau codex?
