Few enemies will survive this battering ram of absolute berserk aggression.

Centuries of combat experience mean they strike like the sword of Sanguinius himself, claws crackling and storm bolters blazing with righteous fury. The few enemies that can react quickly enough to bring their weapons to bear find their retaliation ricocheting harmlessly from Terminator armour, seconds before being swept away by a howling gale.

Versed in long range and close combat equally, they react and adapt extremely quickly to changing battlefield scenarios. The thundering bolters of the Tactical Squads and Devastators quickly thin the ranks of an advancing foe and, once their tails are turned, the swift onset of the Assault Marines annihilates any morale they may have had left. What’s your favorite release this weekend from Game Workshop?

  • Shawn

Okay, the real big surprise is that they didn’t do something like this for Ultramarines. Blood Angels get their very own assault squads, veteran vanguard squad, command squad, and dreadnought squad. I think GW missed an opportunity to show that the Ultramarines are best (favoritismm to Matt Ward). Why do they need their own individual kits? An upgrade kit would have done fine and if you are any chapter other than BA, you have to rely on generic kits.

    • Karru

Maybe they did it because this was released way after BA Upgrade Sprue and AoD book didn’t include Ultramarines? I’m sure that in a month or two we are getting another Marine release that might include upgrade sprues to Ultramarines, Space Wolves and Dark Angels. Considering that the Black Crusade Campaign series is just starting, there is quite the chance to see more kits like this.

      • Shawn

Good point Karru. It might be a way to release multiple kits from multiple chapters.

    • BaronSnakPak

The sternguard, vanguard, assault, and command squad are all the same kits that Ultras have, but with the BA upgrade sprue included. Yes, you save a little money by not having to buy 4 upgrade packs, but the core kit sprues themselves are not unique.

      • Shawn

Okay. It’s kind of what they did with the Deathwatch then. I guess they figure it was a good idea. Now if they can do something like this for Iron Hands (and the Storm Wardens) life would be grand, lol.

        • generalanvilpants

Not likely. They’re doing this to boost other peripheral BA specific sets that aren’t selling (BA Dreadnoughts, Baal Predators, Sanguinary Guard, etc.) by pimping the chapter.

Iron Hands don’t have any specific boxed sets that are depreciating on pallets in the GW warehouse.

  • Dumbcow1

MY GOD. ID GIVE MY LEG to have Black Templars get even 1/10th the amount of love BA is getting!

    • Jordan Cafolla

Go back in time and play in 3rd edition, sadly

    • Inco Gnito

I’d give a leg if BA’s would get just a hint of the rules that Black Templars are getting….

      • generalanvilpants

Blood Angels are getting their version of the Demi-Company, likely with the Objective Secured rule, just as Dark Angels were retroactively updated with that formation.

Black Templars since 6th edition have not received. ONE. SINGLE. FORMATION. that lets them field their signature Crusader squads.

The simplest fix would be to allow Templars players to substitute Crusader squads for Tactical squads in any formation, the way that Terminator Cataphractii can subsitute for Terminator or Terminator Assault squads in formations. Unfortunately, GW seems unaware or unwilling to make this ruling.

  • Xodis

Im hoping there are new gear restrictions/allowances to make this kit special, and maybe something similar for all the non-codex chapters. Would help add more separation between Codex and non-Codex chapters.

  • Lord Trebor

The reason is obvious if u are a BA player codex astartes has formations an weapons the BA do not have no heavy grav for devs formations thatBA cannot use ultra marines are the poster boys but for many of us BA players we have had a short fall due to the heavy nurfing in 7th edition BA codex … not to mention most other forces are ranked highr than BA there not even in the top 15 ranked so why are u complaining we BA players need this an if u didnt know your lore the BA are artisans of art an there war gear is proof of that with its adornments … space wolfs etc… the most annoying thing here is u guys wineing about how hard done by u are seriously… !!?
???? Assualt unit are useless unless they are DC which is all i will take as assault other than the samguinary gaurd who i have to put a sanguinary preist with when ever i use them just for FNP … eldar tau are the topfactions… so u moaning when GW is releasing new kits for all factions due to a regrouping on the slow balancing build up to an 8th edition…. an it wont be long til guillimen is awake an u will jave his model they are advancing the story slowly but for now they ae bolstering their forces ready for the primarchs who will return once they implement the forwarding continuiation of 40k i for one am more intereste in the new revamped rules because my BA army gets massive losses every game… because of there short falls which they have many… now i take a warhoind titan in my list just to balance the books thats the only thing my opponents fear other than the death company and astorath… so quit your moaning and wait for all the new faction forces an up coming supplemnt until edition 8

    • Emprah

      Learn how to spell.

      • Andrew Webb

        You too…. Emprah….

      • Neal Laxman

I could handle the “colourful” spelling, if only punctuation and paragraphs were used to their intended purpose! 😉

      • Lord Trebor

I wrote this on the fly u want proper gramma go read some kids work from school also why be so an*l its a discussion not a test

  • BloodAngel

Soo. .. Nothing new here model wise? It appears they just threw regular vanguard, sternguard and command kits at us with the upgrade sprue making them “Blood Angel Specific” ? Basically the same thing they did with deathwatch?

    • ZeeLobby

Which is really silly imo. Why not just sell upgrade series and the regular boxes and save shelf space. (Well once I typed it out I realized why, cause people would just buy upgrade series for the stuff they already own. Now they HAVE to buy new units.)

      • Wolfman UK

The upgrade sprue have been out for ages

        • ZeeLobby

Oh. I thought it actually had new bits. That’s even sillier.

  • BloodAngel

The upgrade sprue should have a heavy flamer.

    • Phil Turner

Why? The blood angels tactical squad comes with a hvy flamer, as does the sternguard box.

      • wibbling

Yes, but ideally, game wise you’d want two. Heavy flamers are lovely.

  • Karru

I’m waiting for that Archangels Demi-company rules to leak. If it is a core formation, I’m so going to use it to field my Ultramarines. I love my Terminators, Sternguard and Vanguard units!

It’s good to see BA getting an update, gives me hope that the other armies that suffer from the pre-necron release will be getting on level with everyone else. BA isn’t bad per say since they are Imperials and can just Ally their problems away, but I know for a fact that there are people that do not want that, like me. Next up I’d like to see Grey Knights or Dark Eldar. Both still lack “Decurions” and DE could benefit greatly if they got something like the ability to disembark from a transport after 12″ movement from their decurion/formation.

Then we have Tyranids, but unless GW realises that they need to dial back to their 4th edition when it comes to special rules, they won’t be getting anywhere. My local gaming group has always agreed upon all Synapse Creatures getting Eternal Warrior and extending it to all other units within range. We noticed a severe increase in fun factor on both sides since Tyranids could field other Synapse Creatures outside Hive Tyrants. Of course severe price decrease almost across the board is needed for the big bugs and medium bugs outside the Hive Tyrant.

Astra Militarum doesn’t really need an update I tend to find, a non-apocalypse sized decurion would be nice. I have yet to play a game with them that I didn’t enjoy, they still are extremely flexible with only few units that are very weak, mostly Ogryns and Wyrdvane Psyker Squad thingy. They really don’t need something “new”, but the return of Lumbering Behemoth to Leman Russes would be nice, so buying Sponsons would be a benefit once again.

  • Rainthezangoose

Blood Angels have never done it for me, the cups and the gold nipples really don’t scream grimdarkness to me.

And i’m normally quite keen on the golden nipples golden goblets filled red liquid scene.

    • BaronSnakPak

They’re the chapter with a degenerative mental disease that slowly eats away them until they believe they’re the primarch, Sanguinius, and go crazy with blood lust and then are sent on suicide missions. They’re also artists, and they try to hide their genetic flaw with pretty things.

Seems pretty grimdark to me, as does cups filled with blood. The nipple armor is silly though, which is why I file them off.

      • Hedwerx

Yeah, I mean who’d have nipples on their armour? 😛

        • BaronSnakPak

40K is a historical game: confirmed.

          • Hedwerx

The Blood Angel aesthetic is heavily influenced by Greco-Roman fashion, and especially by Hellenistic sculpture. Hence the prevalence of muscle cuirass, and pretty-boys with short tousled hair…
One of the things about muscle cuirass is, it more often than not, comes with nipples.

          • BaronSnakPak

Yeah, but it doesn’t make it any less silly. Luckily, hobby knives make quick work of nippled armor.

  • Mr.Gold

since Traitors Hate has chaos fighting Blood Angles & Ad Mech, I wonder if the week after the blood angles it will be Ad Mechs turn?

  • L’Obasso

    Surprisingly, it’s space marines again…..

  • Anti-Gravity

I love the character of Sanguinius, but Blood Angels bore me. Maybe it’s because the ‘blood’ theme for 40K is so damn PLAYED OUT because of Khorne, and followed closely by the BAs. We get it, war is bloody! Almost as pervasive as the skull obsession GW has.
