Spire of Dawn Thoughts

A few points here:

The inclusion of both square and round bases makes me think this might be a rebox of existing Island of Blood inventory.

The pricepoint is INSANE for that many minis, including the very, very well done High Warden on Eagle. That works out to $1.08 per mini, many of which are cavalry and/or heroes!

I don’t know if the rules in this box will be identical, but remember that last year GW put out a Warscroll PDF for Island of Blood. It’s still out there.

~Happy holidays!

  • Darkjedi

Are you sure that’s $80 and not $180? I don’t even play AOS, but at that price I’ll grab one.

    • Emperor’s Champion

well that’s what the set went for 6 years ago so why not.

      • Crevab

I’d say it’s pretty surprising. I think Assault on Black Reach went up $40 or so dollars just during the course of 5th ed.

      • orionburn

Because being able to do a reboxing of a set like that 6 years later and still offer the same price point is pretty damned impressive. Like the OP said I don’t play AOS (used to play Fantasy way back when) but may have to get a set at the price. This may just pull me into the AOS world.

        • nurglitch

Seems like one of those stealth price decreases they’ve been fitting in lately.

    • Ross Allan

Definitely £50, so $80 is about right.

The box is currently sold out online, but GW have confirmed there’s more on the way.

  • Valeli

“The inclusion of both square and round bases makes me think this might be a rebox of existing Island of Blood inventory.”

Really? That’s what makes you think it? Not the fact that it’s like… using the same models?

    • Massawyrm

It’s the difference between “Hey, we still have these great old molds sitting around. Let’s run some through the machine and rerelease the set,” and “Hey, Marv. What should we do with all these old unsold Island of Blood boxes that are taking up shelf space in the warehouse?”

      • Valeli

        Fair point.

  • ThorOdinson

Whoa, wait, square bases are included, too? That’s the only thing which was preventing me from being interested in picking this up. But if square bases are included then I’ll definitely get it!

    • ThorOdinson

I used to have this set but eBayed it and later regretted it. I’m looking forward to replacing it (Also wish I’d kept my Orc, Goblin, and Dwarf models from my 6th and 7th Edition starter sets. Combining the 6th and 7th sets actually gave me a pretty great Orcs & Goblins army).

    • TenDM

Is that normal? I always assumed Games Workshop pretended square bases never existed.

      • rtheom

They’re trying to, and having them sit around the warehouse was really starting to make them mad, so…

  • EnTyme

Not personally interested in either race presented, but man! What a deal for those who are!

  • Randy Randalman

Best part is the story of the Aelves is being advanced.

    • Valeli

Seeing an A in front of that still makes me “K”ringe.

  • jkp

how is this “Next week’s releases”? Spire of Dawn went up for preorder last week, is already sold out in most places and doesn’t ship before Dec. 23 or something.

    • Nyyppä

“Next week products” here means “this weeks releases”.

      • jkp

        but…It’s not releasing until Christmas?

        • jkp

and usually these posts reveal what goes up for preorder on the following Saturday.

        • Nyyppä

Oh. Well, it’s this site. Shrugging and ignoring the inconsistencies is pretty much the only rational course of action here.

    • rtheom

It went up for pre-order accidentally last week. I can’t remember if they removed it or if it just became a 2 week preorder.

  • Iconoc1ast

    Must….resist….. reasonable ….pricing..Noooooo!

  • Kritarion

I wish I had a reason to buy it, but I don’t care for either army. But I hope this is an indicator of what is to come from GW in the future (It won’t, but I still hope)

  • Rainthezangoose

What id give for a deal like that for 40k, or rather for Hobbit BSG. How things change.

  • euansmith

Any one know how many points these two forces work out at?

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

      Oh nice!

  • Thatroubleshootah

I had 0 desire to play fantasy or age of Sigman and then they released this. Looks like I’m going to be playing age of Sigmar. Lower prices work.

  • Brian Brodeur

Square bases being included makes me super happy. Will have to pick up now for sure.

  • Ed Butlar

    Must not…..be positive …about …GW

  • Red_Five_Standing_By

If I wasn’t invested in Stormcast right now, I would probably buy 2 o these to add to the High Elf models I already own to make a decent 2k army.
