40K: Grand Master Voldus – A Closer Look

Games Workshop has the final video for the Triumvirate of the Primarch – it’s time to look at Grand Master Voldus!

via Warhammer Community

Here is the last in our series looking at the heroes of the Gathering Storm: Triumvirate of the Primarch today. We might not have heard of Grand Master Voldus before the events of Rise of the Primarch, but rest assured, he’ll soon to be a familiar name in the 41st Millennium and feared across the battlefields of the far future.

The air grows heavy with psychic charge as Grand Master Voldus strides into battle. He is the most potent psyker the Grey Knights have seen in centuries.

We got a chance to look at the full kit with Voldus, Cypher and some other guy inside of it earlier this week. The Newest Grand Master of the 3rd Brotherhood is no slouch. He might be a bit untested, but if he can impress Draigo, then you know he’s got to be at little competent.

If you want to skip straight to the rules break down with GW Rules Writer Dave Sanders starts at 1:53.

Capable of generating 5 of the Daemonology Sanctic powers (if you go all in with Sanctic) he’s going to cause some problems for all those new Daemons running around…

The Malleus Argyrum is his Hammer and it brings the pain! He’s going to be very deadly in challenges as he swing this mighty weapon at imitative – There is no “unwieldy” with this weapon!

Voldus is available as a part of the Triumvirate of the Primarch which hits shelves Saturday!

Triumvirate of the Primarch $90

A strange fate binds Roboute Guilliman, Grand Master Voldus and the Fallen Angel Cypher together. They walk a path of providence; though whether it ends in damnation or deliverance, none can say. On the battlefield, this triumvirate of warriors is an unstoppable, inspiring force, bolstering the morale of those they lead while shattering enemy lines with their staggering strength. Cypher’s pistols roar as Voldus’ psychic powers lash out – all the while, Guilliman strides like a reborn god, bellowing rallying cries and striking down countless foes.

Grand Master Voldus – swinging for the FENCE!

Are there any smiths who AREN’T blind or otherwise crippled?

    • Mr.psyker
    • benn grimm

      Gendry off GOT?

    • Emprah

      Vulkan but he is dead.

      • Deathwing

        or is he?

    • Deathwing

cant be a savant with out a downside

  • benn grimm

‘My Grandad! What a big hammer you have!’

‘All the better to smite you with my dear…’

Nice to see the old folks getting a turn in the spotlight for a change. 🙂

    • Deathwing

uh… gilliman is a bit over 1200, or 10,200 depending on if you count the time in stasis or not

  • Deathwing

so all them cry babies whining about papa smurf being a slow MC. Now you have a level 3 psycher that can take fulmination and fling papa smurf 18 inches. Your welcome

    • Scott Resnick

And yet because he’s an Ultra, Tiggy in a Conclave is STILL a better choice, so Voldus was never needed.

      • Bonemaw

yup get tiggy and a lib conclave and fling/teleport papa smurf around all over

      • Deathwing

whats the name of the formation where Tiggy and papa smurf are in it together again? I must have missed that.

        • Scott Resnick

          They’re not.

What’s the rule that says that a psyker can only affect someone he’s in a formation with? I must have missed that.

No one is going to use the Triumvirate formation just so that Voldus can cast his powers on RG. You take a Conclave, let Tigarius reroll for powers, getting the ones he actually wants (and an extra one if he focuses on that school), casting easier because of the Conclave, having even more chances for the power because of the extra librarians.

          • Deathwing

So whats your list look like with both papa smurf and a tiggy conclave in it?

          • Scott Resnick

Don’t have one. Don’t want one. Don’t play Ultras. Doesn’t mean I don’t know how to use available tools. Even if you just used Tiggy you’d have a better chance of the powers you want than Voldus + Cypher

(in fact, with Voldus’s cost, Tiggy + 2 basic Librarians is actually much cheaper than Voldus + Cypher)

          • Scott Resnick

Off the top of my head, at 1850…

            Tiggy Conclave (bare bones, 295)

That leaves you 1200 points for a Battle Demi Company and an aux slot. You get 4 uses of Doctrines, you can use the conclave to throw RG around, and then use the remaining points to bulk out everything else. Maybe a Raptor Talon aux choice for some hard to hit flier support.

          • John Bower

If you take that one then you only need to roll for the power you don’t have…. 🙂

  • Kinsman

What I like about the timing of these videos is that the presenters are all probably thinking, “Just wait to you play him in the new edition, then you’ll really want to play him!”

    • John Bower

More fool anyone that invests in 8th, especially if like me you have that much money as I do invested in 7th. 🙁

  • JJ

“he most potent psyker the Grey Knights have seen in centuries”
Sooo powerfull is the same psyker level as all of their other librarians….?

    • Carey_Mahoney

      Not quite. He’s Lore Master.

  • MechBattler

Meh. He’s still no Draigo, who kills bloodthirsters with his teeth.

  • Richard Higgins

Only 1 rule needed to make him semi decent: eternal warrior… but now he is an overcosted generic with a hammer that dies to a single s8 shot… not worth it in any way possible… don’t know what this guy was thinking… he doesn’t even get the extra power if he’s not warlord

  • Earl Tower

Well I guess I’llk have to add him to my ‘Army of Faith” : Grey Knights, Imperial Agents, and Sisters of Battle. ANd now I can slide my Cypher and Fallen unit into that army.
