Aos: New GW Kharadron Overlord Mini Pics

From the GW display cases at GAMA BoLS has new shots of the new Age of Sigmar Kharadron Overlords

Well, someone’s gotta walk… I’m sure if they survive enough battles, they will earn their floaty balloon/ball thingy…

Have drill-hammer – let’s rock!

Look at all that detail at the captain’s station!

The bow Duardin face detail is great!

Well, that’s neat. Full-on steampunk duardin ahoy. I like the gyro-levi-sphere aesthetic, and how it works for jumppacks too.

Could also make squat/demiurg players happy, won’t take a lot of customization to make these guys work in 40K.

    • Shawn

In fact, I think they look more 40k then AoS. That is to say they look more futuristic than they do fantasy/steam punk. Of course, GW probably did that on purpose. Might mean the return of Squats as a faction.

      • uatu13

First thing I thought when I saw these was “I hope GW makes rules to use these as Squats in 40k!”

      • Golden Yak

Yeah, I think it makes sense for GW to make models that could work in either setting – it works for daemons!

      • Dave Westberry

Throw in some Mechanicus bits and your ready to go to the Dark future!

      • Emprah

Yeah, they are more 40k themed than AOS in my opinion too, Squats are back with the beard armour and the Nemesis Beardknight!

      • Severius_Tolluck

Mainly the ones with the heavy weapons andcharacters Baron Harkanon one with the chain sword or the basically thunder hammers with tubes!
The basic infantry and boats are fine.

      • Mike Salamandrin

I remember reading a rumor buried in the new fluff/addition/new marines rumors, that more AoS/40K cross system kits like the tzeench-gors would show up; the site floating it as possibly stormcast as Gulliman’s new super maines, but these stunties would fit better as the new Squats.

  • Old zogwort

I like it armoured Dwarf air pirates without going silly jut put gears on it steampunk

    • ZeeLobby

I’d almost not even call steampunk. There’s very little gears or pipes/stacks at all. They’re closer to like space marine tech levels, haha.

      • Shawn

My thoughts exactly. See the post below

      • ShasOFish

It’s basically aetherpunk. Like the Eberron setting for D&D.

      • Old zogwort

I agree and this is a good thing. Steampunk looks awful really.

        • ZeeLobby

I think these would look a lot better without the steampunk brass.

  • BloodAngel

Seeing this makes me think they could actually make a really cool race of squats for 40k that would actually add to the game. Think high tech steampunk of the future.

    • BloodAngel

I mean, they still have furry footed hobbits in 40k, which are, IMHO, dumber than dumb. I think squats could fit back in the narrative. Maybe they were rediscovered. They could have been major isolationists and that’s why they hadn’t been heard from since. Plus, story-wise, they could have been known to exist by the imperium, just not known by the public at large. You know how the imperium likes to keep everyone ignorant about anything that may be disruptive for them.

      • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

there is the Demiurge in the fluff, who could easily be retconned to be Squat survivors.

      • Severius_Tolluck

I think there was a blurb stating that some humanoids with their characteristics still exist now, but in small numbers and do not provide enough soldiery. So basically, well, basic guardsmen.
As well as what Everyone else says, you have Demiurge who are minders specifically.

    • memitchell

These are easily Squats without the need for conversions. Heck, they are much better than were Squats. They have a viable and interesting Old Tech (for 40K) Space Pirate theme (sorry, never was a fan of the biker/triker Squats). I had no problem resisting the original Squats. These are irresistible.

  • Old zogwort

    WOW : |
I just realized that these would look great with the glass bubble space helmets on.

  • rtheom

These will look right at home with the rest of the Warmachine Mercenary model line! Wait a minute…

    • zeno666

      My thoughts exactly.
I prefer Rhulic though instead of bouncing duwaurves.

      • petrow84

I wouldn’t mind Forge Guards with SPD4 and Flight 🙂

    • Laurence J Sinclair

      Kharadron: Khadoran. Ko-incidence, komrade?

      • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

      • You Konspiracy theorist, you.

        • Severius_Tolluck

“Today on Sesame Street, the mortal “Kombatants” learn about the letter C!”

      • Vicent Martín Bonet

I don’t know, apparently Warmachine decided to copy the old Khazalid, it seems, since those words already existed (though not mashed together) back long before Khadoran was a sketch.

  • A little too stylised for my tastes but still cool.

However, wielding an anchor is just plain daft and gets a thumbs down from me. Still an easy fix if I wanted to use those minis.

    • Aezeal

Dwarven miners say picks are accepted dwarven weapons.

      • That’s fine. Then if I ever face one I can simply side step as they try invasion to wield the overly heavy weapon and chuckle as they try and haul it out the mud. Maybe once I’ve stopped laughing I’ll chop his head off 😀 😉

        • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

maybe its made of titanium and only weighs 500 grams…

          • Nah…this is AoS, its made from anchorite and any enemy hit by it has rainbows flying out of there butt for D3+1 turns.

          • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

            I like anchorite!

          • Graham Bartram

It goes well with Marmite on Toastite.

          • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

delicious 🙂 My labradorite likes it too.

          • Graham Bartram

D6+2 as long as the Duardin player shouts “Blammo!” whilst rolling the dice and downs a pint within 6 seconds.

          • zeno666

D6 + D3, because more random is game design.

          • Severius_Tolluck

but wouldn’t that give you a more static range?

    • zeno666

Other companies have models wielding anchors.
So GW had to have one as well.

      • Though they obviously thought of it first…and should be able to claim copyright for it…and sue those other companies… 😀

        • zeno666

Of course. Its not an anchor, its an “aenkkûr” 😉

  • Dave Westberry

Well Crud… Looks Like have to scrap my Duardin Army I was working on… 🙁 Mix of Iron breakers, imperial bits and Kings of war dwarves… it was gonna be epic and then GW does this to me… Can they please hurry up and put a New Sisters range out, P L E A S E!

  • SirDavideo

I really hope modelling these with normal Dwarf heads works. It’s a bit too steam punk for me, especially the top hat man

  • Luca Lacchini

I really love the models, and for the first time I’m seriously thinking about starting a fantasy/AoS proper army – instead of just getting the models that I like to build and paint – but those oh so flimsy looking clear plastic stands for the flying ironclads are getting me super worried.
DE Raider and Ravager experience talking.

    • Stealgaze

For the tau devilfish I ended up using a brass rod after the stick broke many times.

For these I plan to try to convert them from airships to water ships.

      • Luca Lacchini

Brass rod will be, even if it’s lightweight plastic I can already see the upper balloons making a mess of the model’s center of mass: just a light tap on the upper parts and the stand snaps.

    • Oh come on, you know you’ll be holding them in your hand and whirling them around your head going “whirrrrr” and “pew pew”.

No plastic stand needed for that.

      • Luca Lacchini

I’m a bit too old to do that…

But I’m also old enough to properly add small electric engines, LED lights and micro sound speakers. That’s the plan.

        • Seb

There are great perspex rod available these days with strengthened recipes. I use a fine 1.5mm rod for my Tau Drones – haven’t had a breakage yet from manhandling, can’t imagine how tough a 10mm rod would be.

You could always have mooring lines (metal) dragging along the ground?

    • Severius_Tolluck

With the curve and cross beam going they should actually be way stronger then the old “flying” bases but still thinner then the current flyer stands. I would recommend doing the brass rod though to be safe.

  • euansmith

Puppetswars do some excellent Steam Kingdom Ogres which could go well with these guys.

    • zeno666

A lot of nice stuff in that line.

  • Donald Lindsey

I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but how can anyone complain about dwarf sky pirates? More importantly, they are anchor-wielding steam-punk sky pirates.

    • There was someone who complained, but he was found dead in a ditch with an anchor-shaped hole in his face.

      • Hawt Dawg

I confess! Now worship me for the deed.

  • F***k. Yeah.

  • Jesse Cavazos

What size base does that airship use, you think?

  • MMO Builder

With all this effort GW is putting in, it makes it real hard to continue to dislike AoD!

    • Seb

      Age of Duardin? 😉

      • MMO Builder

        That sounds so much better!
