Join us as we take a look at the new release from WoTC: Tales from the Yawning Portal…

Our friends at Dragon’s Lair Comics & Fantasy were one of brick and mortar stores to get a batch of Tales from the Yawning Portal early for Pre-release. They were kind enough to bring over a copy for us to check out:

Tales from the Yawning Portal is a grand way to introduce dungeon crawls to your campaign. It features a wide variety of level ranges, so you can easily drop one of these dungeons into your world. There’s a kind of uniquely D&D aspect to the whole idea of hearing rumors of a dungeon laden with treasure and then going and seeking it out–that’s how the game was run back when (and still is, albeit from a different perspective).

And this book marks a return to form. There’s a wide variety of dungeon design, so whether you’re looking for monsters or traps or intricate environmental hazards, this book’s got a little something for everyone.

And of course, where there are traps, there’s treasure… you’ll find a number of unique magic items and pieces of equipment in here, more than enough to sate any loot-hungry adventurer with gleams of gold in their eyes. Though this treasure does not come without risk…

There are fierce fights, finally fixed for fifth edition. The designers have taken classic monsters and given them 5th Edition incarnations that by and large are a faithful recreation of the original characters. We’ve talked a little about how well they port over monsters like Kalka-Kylla–a giant talking hermit crab who likes to pin his foes (or grapple them), and the rest of the monsters are equally as cared for here. So whether you’re looking for a quick and dirty dungeon crawl, or a delve you can dive deep into, Tales from the Yawning Portal has got you covered.

Classic Adventures updated and revisited for 5th edition!
