GW Confirms Codexes, Chaos and Grey Knights Next Week

GW confirms that Chaos Space Marines and Grey Knights are coming next week.

Nothing stays secret on the Internet for very long. Just yesterday news of the upcoming Codices for Chaos Space Marines and the Grey Knights leaked–and today GW confirms their rapidfire release. So following closely on the heels of one power-armor filled codex come TWO MORE power-armor filled codexes. What a great time to be a genetically engineered inhuman monster, or a genetically engineered inhuman monster who’s been tainted by overwhelming evil.

At this rate, the entirety of Codex: Deathguard should be leaked by 3:47 am.

Also, as an added bonus, we get some much better pictures of the Intercessors and Hellblasters with their fancy new weapons options, which you can read more about here.

One codex is pretty big news – but sometimes that’s just not enough, so how about two in one week? This coming Saturday, you’ll be able to pre-order the new codexes for the Chaos Space Marines and the Grey Knights.

Codex: Chaos Space Marines brings some of the oldest enemies of the Imperium fully into the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 with loads of new content. The Heretic Astartes are an ancient and terrifyingly powerful force, and more so in the age of the Dark Imperium as they are empowered not only by centuries of hate and an arsenal of baleful relics but now also by the dark energies of the warp bleeding into the wider galaxy from the Cicatrix Maledictum.

The new codex represents the Chaos Space Marines in their ascendancy, allowing you to collect a force that reflects both your favourite units and Legions while remaining true to the background. Like Chapter Tactics, the Chaos Legions are getting new rules of their own to represent how they fight, as well as unique Stratagems, Warlord Traits and artefacts. You’ll be able to build powerful themed armies, from rebellious packs of Renegades to furious forces of World Eaters, and from terrifying battalions of Night Lords to the depraved duelists of the Emperor’s Children. There are 9 psychic powers too, as well as updated points costs, datasheets and much much more – we’ll be taking a closer look at each Legion every day next week, starting tomorrow.

Codex: Grey Knights allows you to field an elite army of Daemon slayers. As one of the most elite armies of the 41st Millennium, the Grey Knights are trained and equipped for the direst of battles. In the new codex, you’ll be able to represent this expertise on the tabletop with a host of new rules allowing you to field a devastating force and take advantage of unusual tactics thanks to new Stratagems and psychic powers. This book is packed with new ways to play the Knights of Titan, and one of our favourites is the option to take a Grand Master in a Nemesis Dreadknight! This opens up the option to field an entire army of these crusading exo-suits.

I think I have a whole squad of Exo-suits somewhere…

With six powers for the Sanctic discipline, you’ll be able to take full advantage of the psychic might of the Grey Knights, and this is paired with the stand-alone release of Grand Master Voldus – the strongest psyker in a Chapter of powerful warrior mystics. This hero will make for a worthy commander in the new codex, but you’ll also be free to create your own Grand Masters with mysterious relics and great Warlord Traits.

And of course, here’s those pictures of the Hellblasters and Intercessors all done up in their Sunday finest.

The news about the Chaos Legions is pretty exciting, be sure and tune in here for more coverage over the next week.

Though, you might not want to order both Codexes in the same shipment, they might start trying to kill each other in transit.

So, no new models for DG or Chaos… Weaves of Primaris SM only.

    • Malisteen

no new models for Grey Knights or (vanilla) Chaos Marines. Death Guard will be getting new models along with their codex after the Primaris waves. We’ve already seen preview pics of plague terminators, multi-part plague marine kits, Mortarion (his scythe, anyway), and a new tank – so new kits for them are already confirmed. Waiting for open time in the model release schedule is probably why their book is fourth in line instead of second, even though they’re in the starter set.

      • Randy Randalman

And right now it’s about getting all the rules updated and consistent in short order. So that like most good games, all the rules are from the same edition. There is always time for models.

        • euansmith

But if the Codices don’t contain any new units, then players are going to have to tuck the Dataslates from the new minis in to their Codex.

    • AircoolUK

PSM will be done by the Glorious 12th (if you’re into that kind of psychopathic sport). CSM really, really need a new kit, but so does every other faction regards their basic troops, except perhaps Deldar.

In the mean time, I’d just paint DG in something other than green or brown for instant CSM of your choice. They’re sure to have other releases beyond what we’ve got and that slug-tank.

I’m not a DG player myself, although I do have the models from DI and First Strike, so I may follow my advice and build a small renegade force. I’ve got a few chaos models of varying types (some from many, many moons ago), so a chaos warband might be a fun change from painting a billion crimson fists.

      • Stonewall

How can you paint a billion crimson fists… they number int he hundreds now.
PS I love and also collect crimson fists.

        • AircoolUK

Well, it feels like a billion…

          • memitchell

I’ve told you a THOUSAND times to stop exaggerating!

  • dinodoc

Next week? Shouldn’t we have some rules leaks?

    • jonathon

preorder next week, not available in hand next week

      • dinodoc

        Still…

    • Brian Griffith

This is new GW. They’re gonna show off the legion traits and stratagems daily.

  • euansmith

“Okay, Brothers, synchronize you Chronowidgets. Can anybody tell me, what time is love?”

    • dinodoc

      Baby, don’t hurt me!

      • dinodoc

Oh. Sorry. You were asking “What TIME is love?”

        • Maitre Lord Ironfist

but plz don`t hurt my, no more

    • elShoggotho

Sorry, bro. Love can’t bloom on the battlefield.

    • AircoolUK

      3am Eternal.

      • zeno666

        Mumu!

      • euansmith

Man, I want some Noise Marines NOW!

    • Nostok

Primaris marines, getting all the best kit including leather straps instead of maglock bolters.

      • euansmith

“Indeed, aged Battle Brother, only the strongest, manliest Space Marine Leather is good enough for the Primaris Marines straps.”

“Um… “Space Marine leather“? That’s like leather used by Space Marines, right?”

“Yeah, something like that… You are certainly using it at the moment… hummm, it is a shame you’ve got a bullet hole through your pecs, and that tattoo will have to be lasered.”

CHAPLAIN!!! THIS PRIMARIS MARINE IS LOOKIN’ AT ME FUNNY!

        • georgelabour

And the most amusing part is that’s very much canon for the Imperium.

The skin of martyrs ends up being used for the gear of the emperor’s angels.

Their bones make up the foundations of his walls. Literally.

          And their skulls…

Become little floaty R2-D2 things with build in dot-matrix printers and laser eyes.

      • AircoolUK

Yep, they get all the gucci gear.

      • Kirasu

It’s not like they read their own past fluff anyway

    • Spacefrisian

I was about to suggest Hammertime, but Primarus marines cannot wield hammers.

    • Boondox

      It’s always beer thirty!!

  • Slaanesh Devotee

That Hellblaster Sergeant’s so fat he looks like he’s secretly following Nurgle.

I hate those abdominal plates they’re putting on some Primaris models.

    • AircoolUK

I think it’s mostly to do with not seeing marines in the new proportions. Even Lobster Captain doesn’t look as bad once you’ve got him painted up and on the battlefield (where, admittedly, you’re looking down upon him).

I think some of it is in the way that they’ve built the armour up in stages, as if the actual parts underneath the armour plates are modelled on the CAD sculpt. Even the dreadnought doesn’t look as lardy once it’s built.

However, I think we definitely know the answer to the eons old question of ‘who ate all the pies?’.

  • Drpx

Watch CSM players get mad that they have to share a launch with space marines.

  • Dan Wilson

Love the little shields. But the pull of chaos is dragging upon me once more… Need to get this Crimson Fists force done soon!

  • Knight_of_Infinite_Resignation

Is it me or do those Primarisues have tiny bodies and enormous legs?

  • Jared van Kell

Did I just read that you can take a Grey Knight Grand Master in a Dreadknight suit……. DAFUQ!!!

  • phobosftw

So pumped for legion previews this week!

Hoping for leaks courtesy of alpharius in a couple of hours tho..

  • Jason Fry

I don’t even care about no new Grey Knights. I’m making a Grandmaster Nemesis Dreadknight that will utterly beat face.

  • Alexis Muscat

I do hope Emperor’s Children get a specific psychic.. DG and TS will get in their own codices (I bet) .
