Here are the latest images via the Adeptus Astartes page (Facebook) 10-11-2017

Codex Tyranids

About what we all expected.  $40, and arriving in 3.5 weeks.

Start Collecting Boxes

Two new Start Collecting boxes here for the Eldar and bugs.

Tyranid boxed set:

  • Trygon
  • Broodlord
  • 8x Genestealers

Eldar boxed set:

  • Farseer
  • Wraithlord
  • Warwalker
  • 5xWraithguard

If these maintain the $85 price tag they are fantastic. The Eldar one in particular is $146.25 to buy a la carte!

~Have at it – the Great Devourer is near!

So Eldar coming after nids? That’s cool, but please GW, we need new kits for aspect warriors! I still have a bit of hope…

    • Simon Chatterley

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

    • Paul Mattingley

New Phoenix Lords too. Out of the aspects, warp spiders especially need new models. The others are OK, shame that they’re all failcast.

      • ectoplasmic gyrator

IIRC a Shining Spears Pheonix Lord was mentioned in some extraneous fluff as MIA, it’d be great to get one for them. Always my favorite Aspect… until Shadow Spectres haha.

        • Paul Mattingley

Shadow Spectres in plastic would be pretty amazing, although not very likely. Plastic sisters are probably more likely!

      • BaronSnakPak

The wargame exclusive Spiders are pretty neat:

    • Marcet

Considering this looks like it’s going to be a double release, like the GK + CSM codices, I wouldn’t hold my breath regarding new models.

    • I_am_Alpharius

I suspect they are doubling up on the Nid and Eldar codex release ala Grey Knights and Chaos Space Marines.

    • Randy Randalman

It isn’t happening until all the codices are out.

    • ZeeLobby

Yeah. I’d expect new aspects before anything else. Probably in a separate subfaction.

    • TenDM

One Phoenix Lord and one Aspect per year shouldn’t be too hard, should it?

    • mark

Eldar released before nids, should be 28th Oct

  • Rainthezangoose

Both these boxes set are good “bundles” but terrible “starter” boxes.

    • Gabor Fazekas

yeah i have my 2 wraithlords since i started playing havent realy used them out of fun games and even there they sucked 🙁 , GS are good i think in their index not the nids

      • Rainthezangoose

I think it’s more an issue of a starter box should be some CORE troop, a leader models and one big fancy model or some elite unit perhaps both. Both these boxes look more like something you’d ADD to the starter box rather then one themselves. Still anybody who can get the old Tyranid one and then this, would have a pretty confident army for around £80

        • Gabor Fazekas

well if iyanden makes WL WG and WB troops (i read it somewhere as a rumor) than its a valid Patrol with 1 HQ 2 Troops and a Heavy choice, well as for nids the ways of gw are mysterious

        • Dave Weston

Given the Tyranid set I actually think what you’ve described as a starter set is exactly what they’ve done. The new Trygon delivering a unit tactic has become quite a common choice, with Genestealers and Devgaunts being the most common pairings with the Trygon.

The Broodlord has also become popular as a HQ thanks to his low wounds. That’s not to say the older starter sets weren’t good they were, this just seems an odd choice when you don’t consider how popular these units have suddenly become. Hopefully they’ll keep the original starter and even the Brood Progenitor sets still going…

        • BaronSnakPak

With 8th edition, unless you’re running a Battalion, you don’t need “core troops”. The strongest Eldar lists I’ve seen this edition are Wraith spam.

    • TenDM

I dunno. I’ll say what I said about the Chaos Marines box, it’s great in the sense that it’s interesting. They aren’t foundations for good armies, they’re sweet introductions to those armies.
You don’t need a meta crusher list out of a Start Collecting box. If you’re just starting out and want to get excited about playing they’ll do fine. I mean if you didn’t know the ins and outs of the units and just wanted a cool army to start, these would seem awesome.

It would be nice if they were more functional but if these sorts of iconic groups were fantastic the game would be boring, and if the fun units were put in a box they wouldn’t look so good.

  • Chet Atkinson

    No new mods 🙁

  • Andy Wise

gaaah – don’t tempt me in with new Eldar box and show me a starter set. You blummin’ teases

  • shabbadoo

‘Nids need just a plastic Lictor/whatever combo kit and a plastic Biovore/Pyrovore combo kit. Eldar need, oh, a DOZEN units in plastic, not least of all their Aspect Warriors and revamped Guardians with ALL options. And so this is just a continuation of the molasses slow yawn fest that is the 8E release. Support your neglected miniature ranges already GW (i.e. Eldar, core Chaos Marines, Orks, and – Gawd forbid – Sisters of Battle) even if just a little bit! Wake me when something interesting is released. I might buy it.

    • Earl Scott

Nids also need a plastic lord of war…

  • I_am_Alpharius

Looks like they are doubling up on the Nid and Eldar codex release ala Grey Knights and Chaos Space Marines. Makes sense at that clears up the last two weeks of November to start releasing the traditional Xmas focus releases and leaves December for the final two codices.

    • UltimateCrimson

This will be my second christmas buying GW products, are you referring to bundles like the battleforces we saw released last year or something else.

      • I_am_Alpharius

Yes and other bits and pieces from limited dice, paint sets etc..; to merchandise like mugs, rucksacks etc… Always varies from year to year – like last year they printed up a load of copies of Space Hulk (I reckon they’ll do the same this year).

  • Jabberwokk

    😀 😀 😀

  • Talos2

Timing would suggest maybe it’s an xmas start collecting box. They’re usually £100

  • danutzfreeman

Anyone know if these’ll replace the old boxes?

  • No troops, not interested. Some people still use the Force Organisation chart around here…

    • Red_Five_Standing_By

Well we don’t have the new codex. I would wager Wraiths are moving slots. Maybe only in an Iyanden army but maybe in general .It would make sense since I think they are going to redesign the Guardian/Storm Guardian/Dire Avenger box.

    • Bootneck

      Genestealers. . . ?

  • Sicxpence

Those new box sets just get me excited for what they might do for Christmas this year 🙂

  • 40KstillRulesTheTT

My 5000 point collection don’t give a toss about the bundles, I have all I need thanks. Gimme dem new rules Is all I want so I can actually play more than 7 different units with that army and actually win (that index, while at first seemed neat, kinda sucks it turns out)
