BREAKING: Necromunda: Underhive – Unboxed

It’s not even the weekend the the first unboxing of Necromunda’s triumphant return has hit the internet. Take a look.

It looks like early copies are out across the globe, and Gorilla Painting is the first to tear off the shrinkwrap and peer inside the box.

Boxtop off, and the full contents are revealed.  I count 5-6 sprues in there.

A sample House Goliath sprue.

Assembly instructions – full color as per GW usual these days.

Sample blank ganger card, from a giant stack of these for various units in the game.

You can a peek inside the Gang War campaign supplement as well.

I was having a poke around with the box set in store this afternoon. It looks pretty killer. There’s some serious weight in the terrain sprue.

Hi BOLS-Team, sorry for the Spam:
But can you maybe consider making a post about this awesome project:
    https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1162110258/time-of-legends-joan-of-arc/description

You did already mentioned it when it started. I think it´s a great casual/secondary slot for many wargamers and the deal is simply awesome.

    • euansmith

I love the minis; though I’m not going to paint several hundred 15mm dudes. The monsters are pure awesome.

      • Dhalgren Schroeder

15mm? They aren’t teh usual 33 or whatever it is?

        • Iconoc1ast

it was in reply to somebody touting a 15mm kickstarter about joan of arc

          • Dhalgren Schroeder

Ooh duh! Was totally confused for a moment there 🙂

    • Simon Chatterley

      It’s on $1.8 million….

Does it really need more shout outs? I’d rather they spotlighted smaller projects personally.

      • Nikolaj Sokolowski

Ah .. one for this game is okay between all that GW-related stuff isn´t it?

        • Simon Chatterley

They do a weekly round up of all of the Kickstarter they want to highlight.

I’d rather a smaller KS that needs the shout out got one rather than a project that needed $100k and is on $1.8m.

I get you probably want to unlock more stretch goals but feel free to flood twitter and Facebook with them.

  • Wildcard1980

So nice stuff in the box but now there are no rules for any other gangs. I’m hopeing they have rules for at least generic gangs for all of us that have other gangs or no plan to play these two gangs.

    • Iconoc1ast

is that info not in the gang war supplement?

      • Wildcard1980

Don’t know that’s what has me a little worried. I haven’t been into my local store I’m sure they got the box but it didn’t sound like it from the video.

      • Tshiva keln

From what I read on a gw article it’s just the two. Think they plan on putting out some legacy rules on the web page but other gangs will be in the next book. Much like they did for blood bowl but smaller scale as less gangs then teams. Absolutely shocking if this is true, and I’m hoping I remembered it wrong!

        • Iconoc1ast

          damn…

        • BigGrim

Pretty sure you’re on the money.

      • I_am_Alpharius

Gang War will have the full gang rosters for only Goliath and Escher. Rest will come in future supplement. However, from day 1 a pdf of classic gang rosters will be on the Necromunda website so can people can still use them straight away.

    • I_am_Alpharius

From day 1 a pdf of classic gang rosters will be on the Necromunda website so can people can still use them straight away – they will be fairly basic.

  • James Washington

Don’t know that’s what has me a little worried. I haven’t been into my local store I’m sure they got the box but it didn’t sound like it from the video.

  • thegreatmoronos

I’m curious to know how the ganger’s compare in size to the primaris and death guard minis. From the pics they look to be pretty similar esp the Goliath, hope I’m wrong coz that would be pretty dumb

    • I_am_Alpharius

Kits are in scale with ‘modern’ Citadel plastic – So I would look towards other human-esq things like the Genestealer Cult kits, Tempestus Scions etc…

      • thegreatmoronos

The oblique subtlety of your reply is quite cunning….

    • ReverendTiberiusJackhammer

The Goliaths are explicitly referred to as gene-modded/vat-grown, so there’s a reason they’re bloody massive. (Not saying it’s necessarily a good reason, it’s a notable change, thematically.)

Eschers are tough to gauge from pictures alone, due to the platform/pump shoes and upright poses, but they do look to be on the tall side. Seem shorter than Primaris, though.

Tidbits from the WH-Twitch stream with Andy Hoare, FW Specialist Games Manager and architect of the renewed resurgence of older brand games. So have completed Blood Bowl, Necromunda and the soon-ish to be released Adeptus Titanicus.

    – Decision made for Necromunda as soon as Andy Hoare got wind of the plans for Mech scenery was still in the design stage! Without that terrain being down, he could not see how the small team he leads could do it justice.
    – Going back to cardboard terrain would be a step backwards in terms of the products GW produce compared to the 90’s
    – Core box is designed to be a game in a box – which is how the idea of Zone Mortalis came about as a way to provide some terrain to fight around inside tunnels.
    – 2D and 3D version of the game, whilst the same rules
    – Tile simply playing surface, squares not for counting movement; this is still measured directly.
    – Setting gangers on fire is back!
    – Separate Gang card sets; different cards to those included in the core set. Gang specific cards are designed to add more character to gangs that the core rules don’t allow.
    – Every gang has a different starting stat line.
    – Decided to write rules for various other gangs in the games as general in the work the other way around i.e. making loads of cool designs, little bits of equipment and weapons. Did not wish to hamstring themselves in having to include things already listed on gang rosters in lieu of some cool idea come up with at the design stage.
    – From day 1 a pdf of classic gang rosters will be on the Necromunda website so can people can still use them straight away.
    – Rule book will not be available separately and not intention to do so.
    – Orlocks will next be in early Q1 2018. Plans is looking at getting to one plastic gang per quarter the same as Blood Bowl is now doing with plastic teams.
    – Aspiration to eventually introduce brand new gangs. Back in the day JB made a 40pg concept book for Necromunda – this book had gone missing for years in the archive, but a new archivist found it when Andy asked about it, since everyone knew it must have been somewhere. They have years and idea they want to get to!
    – Rules are a complete re-write of the rules. The sales of Necromunda have always been strongest when based in the “current” 40K mechanic – making it easier for current gamers to get into. So people will recognise basic process. However, there are plenty of different that means it still feels like the original edition that older players will recognise.
    – Ammo dice work as Jammed dice and number do shots in one.
    – ‘Red tile’ inside the bottom box is to represent a loading dock. Used in the core rules for the first mission, almost like a “training room”. Box will be used in the future for things like “Gun Fight” and “leader battle” and “pit fights” etc… scenarios i.e. close quarter and with few models.
    – Models in scale with ‘modern’ citadel plastics.
    – WHW hall team are building 3D versions of the game tiles for customer to play on when visiting!
    – FW upgrade sets for Gang to include missing weapons that are on a Gangs armoury list which could not fit on the plastic sprue. Also working on expanded ‘trading post’ armour that also includes weaponry from the Genestealer Cult kits!

    • Iconoc1ast

i would love a copy of JBs book….

      • memitchell

        Sounds like Indie’s Lost Ark.

    • memitchell

Thanks for posting a ton of info.

    • Allaire

I’m sorry but who didn’t see this coming “- Rule book will not be available separately and no intention to do release it separately in the future.”
      Way to go GW.

      • memitchell

I hear you. But, the rulebook in the box is about playing games with the contents of the box (i.e., the boards). It does sound like you need it for 3D games, too, though.

        • Allaire

The book in the box is the core rule book that has the basic rules. You have to have it and to play it like old Necromunda you have to have the gang war book. The official Necromunda FB page confirmed you’ll need both books to get all the rules.

    • Wildcard1980

      Thanks for all the info.

But this crap of one gang per Q is dumb that means we won’t see anything new for at least 2 years if not longer because there are 4 basic gangs left and 5 gangs from outlanders. That’s not counting gang from the WD and from specialists games like pit slaves. Seems to me if they want this to work they need to push most if not everything from the old game by the end of 18.

And at this point I’m willing to give it a chance but this you go I go stuff flys in the face of how every other GW games plays so saying it’s based on the new edition is being Generious.

      • I_am_Alpharius

He did phrase is as getting to a stage where it is one gang per quarter every year. That does not mean we won’t see more, say in the first 6 months.

When you consider with Blood Bowl, GW released the: Gouged Eye, Reikland Reavers, Skavenblight Scrambles, Dwarf Giants and Scarcrag Snivillers; plus the plastic Ogre and Troll big guys all by May 2017 – so roughly over 7 months. Next we should be, supposedly seeing the Elven Union team up for pre-order at sometime in November (so that leaves the 18th or 25th).

So if Necromunda matches that pattern then within 7 months GW would have released the 6 major Houses – which to be honest seem reasonable. He said he believed the Orlock should Jan.

        • Wildcard1980

That’s is more reasonable if they did that but I was always an more an outlander gangs so I’m going to have to be patient. I guess I waited more the 10 years I can wait another 1 or so. What kills me tho is the online down load with the old game all of the House Gangs all started with the same gang build. Only the skills suffered from gang to gang. Even with the update to the game with the original specialist game they used the common build but points for weapons and available equipment was by gang. It was only the outlander gangs that used different builds seems they just made it difficult for difficult sake.

  • Erich Schoenholtz

    So tasty….

    I’ll pre-order 2 sets most likely.

  • Gunther Clone C

Eagerly awaiting Genestealer Cult rules for this game.

  • frankelee

When I win the Powerball, assuming I don’t have to split it with anybody else, I will consider coming back to this overpriced insanity. Until then…
