Geekery: New ‘Last Jedi’ Teaser Raises More Questions

This new teaser continues to create more questions about the battle between the light and the dark.

This has had an Empire Strikes back feeling for awhile now – based on the tone we’ve seen in the trailers, and in the questions being raised. It’s become obvious that there’s a fight over which side Rey will join, and it seems to be leaning toward something darker.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in theaters on December 15th.

Any theories?

I think Rey will fall to the dark side and Kylo Ren will abandon the Sith path in favour of finding his own way, seeking redemption. The next film will deal with Kylo Ren and Finn trying to save Rey from herself.

Sounds too nuanced and deep story telling for Star Wars…and would make people of certain liberal mindset lose their collective minds..

      • Jared van Kell

But it would make for one heck of a story. Besides it is not like those folk with said Liberal mindset can do much about it if they do not like it, what are they going to do, not watch it twice.
This trilogy is all about bringing balance of the Force once and for all, however before that happens Rey and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo will need to find the balance in themselves which means they must experience both the light and the dark firsthand.

Disney is pushing this “Rey/Luke fall to the Dark Side” angle so hard, I have to assume they’re trying to mislead the fan base. It’s just too obvious. That would be a major plot point to give away this soon before release.

  • Balor

Hmmm what the heck was that 2 second clip near the end with what looks to be Rey in strooper armor with a red saber killing the heck out of a blue saber dude.

    • BrianDavion

could be a “dagobah cave” style vision

Have we so quickly forgotten the shot of Jenn wearing an Imperial Officer’s uniform in the Rogue One trailer? This is obviously another misdirection.

      • Balor

Right but was the Jenn wearing the Tie pilot uniform not part of the re-shooting of rogue one? But I do agree that there is a huge mount of misdirection.

    • David Graves

Which trailer were you watching? Do you mean the Phasma/Finn fight with the big shock baton thing?

  • Chet Atkinson

She’s so brilliant at everything she will resist it. And roll credits. I think we can wrap the film up in about 10 mins 🙂

    • Jabberwokk

She is the Mariest of sues

I think Rey and co (Poe, Chewy, that other guy, etc) will get hammered early but then figure out how to fight as a team, and so will pull through in the end… lol

Daisy Ridley, the actor portraying Rey, is a true beauty. And, so far anyways, I’ve found her to be a very good actress. She has a real presence. I’ll give the new SW movies that much. She is a fine addition to the series.

  • Richard Villeneuve

let me guest, a young apprentice will have visions of her friends in danger, she will have to leave her master with her training unfinished. To finally learn about her true origin from her main enemy. All this, while there is an empire at war.

    • Jared van Kell

We can trust Disney not to rip off Empire Strikes Back…

      No really. 😛

  • Chet Atkinson

I find Rey boring and a bit wooden tbh. There doesnt seem to be much depth to the character and not much personality either. Mind you that might be down to Abrams.

Ep. 7 was forcing so many ‘member berries down everyone’s throats you just couldn’t get behind the new setting/characters very well. A new cast looking for Luke Skywalker was a good premise, but then we had to hamfist a New Hope into the plot.

    • Jabberwokk

She was not in danger for one second of that movie.

  • Drpx

Rey will experience the light side, the dark side, and then in true Mary Sue fashion will declare them both bopkis and invent her own side which will inevitably be superior. This, plus the deaths of Luke and Leia will sever the connection to the Lucas-era Star Wars and allow Disney to reconstruct the franchise in their own image.

The 50 Shades of Grey Side (Rule 34)

    • Jabberwokk

You don’t know the power of the relativistic side of the force.

By the way when we’re done here wanna get some soy lattes after we murder some sand people?

  • euansmith

I hope that this is a double bluff, and that Rey will at least give in to temptation for a bit. A flawed hero is always more interesting… Anakin is, of course, the exception that proves the rule.

I’d be happy with a film in which Poe and Kylo are forced to work together for a bit against some other threat.

I know what’s going to happen:

    – Rey will lose her hand after refusing to join her brother to the dark side
    – Rey will find out that Kylo Ren is her brother (and that her mother and father are Leah and Han Solo respectably)
    – Princess Leia is going to die
    – Luke will die (I’m unsure on this one, but based on the ongoing theme of master sacrificing themselves to their student, it seems reasonable to make the guess)
    – The relationship between Finn and Rey will escalate, and Finn will duel with his now arch-nemesis captain Phasmos, or whatever the hell her stupid name is
    – The New Republic will get involved
    – The resistance is going to lose their base
    – the Dark Side will mostly “win,” and based upon the predictability of Disney I say this episode is going to be similar in place to that of episode 5

Have at it. I find most of this to be true already based on how easy it is to predict what Disney and other multi billion dollar film companies shoving down our butt holes.

Forgot to mention, this is the entirety of the plot for the next two episodes, not just episode 7. Ray (which is a stupid name for a protagonist, as well as Finn; you don’t have to symbolically connect everything) may find out her parents are Han and Princess in Episode 9, or whatever. It’s just obvious to me at this point…
