So the first day of the 40k championship is over and while we won’t know the winners till end of day tomorrow, we can certainly say that with almost 200 players, the army breakdown was pretty surprising:

Compared to only 6 months earlier at Adepticon, we are seeing a dramatic drop in the numbers of IG armies out there.

There is roughly parity in the numbers of

-IG
-Space Marines
-Space Wolves
-Blood Angels

with a medium but respectable number of

-CSMs
-Orks
-Tyranids
-Eldar

and smaller numbers of the other forces.

In general we are seeing more diversity within the codex lists and a small but rising number of foot lists out there.  I have to say that overall the feel of army list diversity is increasing with players moving away from the cut and paste “net lists” you hear about all the time.

Based on the changes, it would seem that compared to 6 months ago, we are seeing the community grdually shifting away from IG and moving into the 2 latest Marine variant lists of Space Wolves and Blood Angels.  It could be that with practice and the passage of time, the new lethal marine variant codices are providing players with viable ways of dealing with mech Guard.

We will be getting rundowns and army lists from the winners tomorrow.  Have at it guys.
