As we wrap up this busy week full of unexpected surprises like the Stormraven, lets open up one of the dustier corners of 40K to you folks.  Topic – Tau Empire and in particular the allied races inducted into it.

I think that with the current aged Tau Empire codex, a lot can be wished for, but the Kroot units, and Vespids have always had a hard path to trod.  One of the trickiest things a designer can try to balance is “sub-sect” units within a larger codex.  The trick is to make the sect-themed armies viable, while not undermining the parent units.

We see this in Tau Empire with the Kroot and Vespids being sidelined by the actual Tau units, while in a codex like Daemonhunters we see the other extreme where the Grey Knights themselves got sidelined by the better priced and equipped allied IG and Marine units.

So the floor is open to you folks.  What should be done to salvage the entire concept of the allied Tau units and make them a balanced viable choice for army selection without overpowering the core Tau units.

The floor is your gang.
