Games Workshop Digital is doing something very cool for Advent.  First they have brought an old Daemon out of retirement.

Yesterday on December 1st, GW Digital announced an advent calendar, and put up the following treat as the items for the first day:

DATASLATE: BE’LAKOR, THE DARK MASTER (EBOOK EDITION) 40K
http://www.blacklibrary.com/games-wo…e-Belakor.html
$3.99

BATTLESCROLL: BE’LAKOR, THE DARK MASTER (EBOOK EDITION) WFB
http://www.blacklibrary.com/games-wo…l-Belakor.html
$3.99

BE’LAKOR, THE DARK MASTER: DIGITAL COLLECTION (EBOOK EDITION) 40K/WFB
http://www.blacklibrary.com/games-wo…ollection.html
$6.99

Now if you’ve been paying attention to GW Digital over the last couple of months you will have noticed this little product line they have been pushing of “micro digital products“.  These are the equivalent of the impulse buy items at the checkout line at the grocery store.  They are numerous little downloads that are under 10-20 pages, and give you a few pages of fluff and some rules.  They are normally priced at the $1.99 – $4.99 range.

We’ve seen stuff like “Shuriken Catapult”, “Warscythes”, “Shadow Fields” and such on the equipment side and “Typhus”, Fabius Bile” and “Ahriman” on the character side.
This is the type of stuff that once lived in White Dwarf, but apparently GW Digital has devised a new revenue stream to leverage the thousands of pages of GW lore and writing of the past decades.
Be’lakor is a new step as we are seeing the return of a character with a model who used to be in the ruleset but has been missing for some time.  So unlike the previous attempts it’s an almost irresistible and cheap morsel for many to pass up.
There are still over 2 weeks of advent ahead of us and who knows what GW Digital will dangle in front of us holiday shoppers.
But I can tell you that a $3.99 set of fluff and lore for guys like Cypher or Doomrider would be very hard for even a curmugeon like me to pass up.
What’s your take on all this.  Great micro product line for the playerbase, or blatant holiday cash in?
