SN Battle reports brings you another great battle report using the New Necron codex! Can the Ultramarines take down the silent horror of the Necrons?

Deployment – Hammer and Anvil
Mission – 2 Objectives
Points – 1500pts

Only a deathless machine could possess the patience to endure Nemesor Zahndrekh’s endless monologues. “See there Hacintora, how the separatists rush at us with such unseemly haste? Their headlong charge into our phalanxes appears suicidal, does it not?” “It does Nemesor…” “Listen carefully Hacintora, all is not as it seems! This is what the enemy want you to believe! I’ve seen this tactic before, at the third battle of Philae. On that occasion the foe launched a headlong frontal attack only to distract us from his attempt to outflank us. It did not succeed then and it shall not now. I’ve ordered the 8th Phalanx into reserve and left their place in the line empty thereby giving the semblance of weakness to our…..”

Hacintora’s immortal patience was finally exhausted. He ignored the rest of what his Nemesor had to say. He had heard it all before, three thousand eight hundred and six times by his reckoning. Nemesor Zahndrekh was the finest Necron battlefield tactician in the galaxy but he was also quite mad, unable to discern the happenings of today from the terrible civil wars of the Necrons millions of solar years past. “What is thy bidding?” Hacintora didn’t bother listening to the answer just as he hadn’t bothered to hear the question that had solicited his response. This “conversation” between him and Zahndrekh had been played out so many times that he knew what to say and when to say it with the flawless precision that only a machine could muster.

Best Layout yet?? I actually think it was! we couldn’t stop looking at it and the battlefield itself told a story with not a single miniature yet on the table! Fantastic!

The second objective on the other side of the table was the Imperial broken Aquila which was fenced off.

The Vindicator deploys as close to the deployment edge as possible making sure he can get into firing range on his first turn with his powerful demolisher cannon! Beautiful free hand work by Damian on the model

The Necrons start deploying and easily outnumber the marines. Ernest uses the Reclamation Legion formation which confers Ever Living to all units and characters within the complete Decurion Detachment, which improves Reanimation Protocols from the normal 5+ to a 4+. Yes 4+!!

Ernest’s Overlord and Units of his detachment within 12″ re-roll Reanimation Protocols of 1’s Amazing! this is going to be a tough one for the Ultramarines!

Turn 1 (Necrons) The 3 Tomb Blades quickly move up and two of them get into shooting range ready to fire their twin linked gauss blasters!

Turn 1 (Necrons) The closest Immortals fire at the Landraider and one of their Gauss Blasters manage to glance Those Gauss weapons are evil!

Turn 1 (Ultramarines) …..The Deathmarks land with them! Nasty units they arrive in the same turn your reserves arrive from deepstrilke and automatically mark your unit and gain a 2+ to wound with all their shots (6’s ap2) lethal combination! They can only target the newly deep struck unit and fire in the ultramarines turn but will not be able to fire in their turn

Turn 1 (Ultramarines) The volley of synaptic disintegrators just prove to much and 3 of 5 sternguard fall! The mighty Calgar also loses two wounds after some bad rolls from Damian Wow this was unexpected!
