Kit Review

I’m loving the new Commander Battlesuit.  Like it’s predecessor, it’s bigger, taller and beefier than the standard Crisis suit.  The Coldstar flying variant takes the models firmly into that flying anime range while giving Tau players a neat new option.  I’d still bet on the Gundam in a standup fight but it’s nice to see some flying Tau suits.

The new XV8 Crisis suits like the new Fire Warrior kit do a good job of threading the needle between a new kit that allows modelers to have a field day – thanks to the new posing abilities, while still keeping the older kits looking good. Solid work there.

The Codex is expected and comes in both standard, and fancy collector’s edition.  I do find it odd that at a moment when GW is trying to move away from needing a new codex each time around they are still kicking out $180 codices that may be obsolete in 18 months – but hey, the customer is always right.

4 out of 5 stars (Commander)

3.5 out of 5 stars (XV8 Crisis)

~All in all, GW has done a fantastic job this time around – and given the Tau a major update to their range they have been desperately needing.  I certainly was not expecting such a number of new kits!
