2018 has also seen some fantastic metal and resin miniatures unleashed upon the world, and the following are the best ones from this year.

Now you might be saying, “how can anything be the best? Isn’t that sort of thing entirely subjective?”

To which I’d say, yes, certain things in the grand view of things are subjective–but for the purposes of societal interaction we sort of generally agree they’re true. Whether or not we have free will, for instance, is up for debate, but it doesn’t really change the way society works–if they came out and said, yup, we proved that free will doesn’t exist–society wouldn’t change. So we may as well have it.

Similarly, if you came out and said “that miniature isn’t as good as that one, that’s my opinion” well I’d remind you that opinions can be wrong, and society understands that the following ones are some of the best of 2018.

Cremharunc, Beast of Geanainn Earth – Mierce Miniatures

Now this is an Earth Elemental. Full of rock and root and stone and moss, this is one of th ebest I’ve ever seen. Mierce Miniatures is always making some amazing stuff, and this one really captures the concept in a way that’s as primal as the elemental itself.

Skarre, Admiral of the Black Fleet – Privateer Press

One of the biggest and baddest miniatures out there right now–Skarre’s ghostly pirate ship is the bane of sailors across the Iron Kingdoms. If there is one reason that Cryx’ fleets are the deadliest in the waters, it is Skarre, and everything about this model is amazing. The more you look, the more there is to love. Whether it’s the ghostly skulls lifting the ship up, or the splintered wood, or Skarre herself.

Legio Titanicus Warbringer Nemesis Titan – Forge World

Squeaking in at the last second in the year, say what you will about the effectiveness or the expense of it, but the Adeptus Mechanicus’ Overcompensator Titan is one of the better looking titans out there. That Mars-Alpha Pattern helmet really seals the deal.

Telesto (With Riding Dimitrios) – Arena Rex

Arena Rex has some of the coolest resin miniatures around, and this skirmish-sized game of gladiatorial combat saw the addition of a whole new faction this year with the Helleniki. And Telesto and his best friend make for one of the more striking models we’ve seen–everything about the aquatic beast screams weird fish creature from up out of the depths. You get a sense for its motion and who doesn’t love a good sea horse.

Nightstalker Ming Screech – Mantic

Just look at this thing. Or rather don’t because it’s terrifying, but this grotesque monstrosity is one of the best “horror” models out there–we don’t like looking at it too long because there’s this sinking feeling that it’s looking right back…

Raicho Armored Brigade – Infinity

Infinity makes some amazing models. And the Morat’s Raicho TAG is peak Infinity. It’s sleek and cool and very much embodies the core conflict of the game. It’s got alien malevolence, sleek, cool, anime-inspired design, and it looks like something you could drop into a video game or movie and see in motion. Everything about this sculpt tells you how this model looks when it’ll move, how it fights, and how you don’t want it barrelling down on your lines.

And that takes us through the minis of 2018.

Got one that you think should be up there and is getting criminally underserved by its exclusion? Let us know in the comments–we aren’t picking a winner until next week, so maybe you can present subjective facts to become objective truth.
