5th Edition launched with two adventures meant to be run together. Five years later, they are transforming into something… collectible.

5th Edition celebrates its 5th anniversary this year, and as a part of that, the two inaugural 5th Edition Adventures, Hoard of the Dragon Queen and Rise of Tiamat, which introduced the plight of dragons to a weary audience who had waded through the bloat of the end days of 4th Edition, and ridden high from the cresting wave that was D&D Next’s amazing playtest. These two adventures form a campaign that takes players to 15th level, and sees them face down a rising tide of minions starting with the lowliest dragon cultists to the titular draconic deity herself if everything goes right. Or wrong, depending.

Now both of those campaigns have been folded into a single collector’s edition book, the Tyranny of Dragons, with an incredibly sweet cover designed by Hydro74. The cover art may be of Tiamat, but the skill on display is worthy of Bahamut. What’s even more interesting is that the new book includes errata and a reworked opening chapter–which is an oft-tread upon complaint in the community. It’ll be interesting to see how this has changed and if Wizards plans to alter any future modules, but we’ll have to wait until October to find out.

Tyranny of Dragons – $44.95

Avert the cataclysmic return of Tiamat in this adventure for the world’s greatest roleplaying game.

In an audacious bid for power, the Cult of the Dragon leads the charge in an unholy campaign to bring Tiamat back to Faerûn. Alongside their dragon allies and the Red Wizards of Thay, they sweep from town to town, laying waste to all those who oppose them and gathering a hoard of riches for their dread queen.

The threat of annihilation has become so dire that groups as disparate as the Harpers and Zhentarim are banding together to fight the cult. The heroes must succeed, or Faerûn will succumb to draconic tyranny. In the end, the world will never be the same.
