D&D: Hellbound Takes You Inside D&D’s New Adventure

Come get a special preview of the new adventure: Descent into Avernus with Hellbound, an actual play miniseries from IGN featuring D&D’s Kate Welch.

Adventurers wanting a taste of the Nine Hells ahead of the September 17th release date can tune in weekly to IGN’s preview mini-series featuring D&D designer Kate Welch running a team of players from IGN through a preview of Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus. This series is cut up into hour long chunks and gives audiences a look at the sorts of encounters that they might find awaiting them within.

In the first episode, the band of adventurers meets a very special Kenku, one that’s much more loquacious than the ones you might be used to. You’ll also get a first glimpse of the Infernal War Machines in action, though the episode cuts off before too many mechanics can be spoiled. This is just the intro episode, so you’ll only get a vague sense of one of the starting quests, and you don’t follow the exact questline that would presumably, take you into the Nine Hells…

…but once you’re there, it feels like the atmosphere, the encounters, and locations like the Hellwasp Nest (which is reputedly where angels end up) are all about as spot on as you might expect. Players are treated as newcomers into the Nine Hells, and so are given a whirlwind tour by a pair of Kenku looking to fix up their mechanical war engine–and we get our first glimpse of Soul Coins. These coins are condensed soul stuff and are decidedly morally ambiguous, if not outright evil, but they’re used to fuel the engines of hell in their fight against the blood war. So be sure and check out the series if you want to see more.

It looks like things are heating up in the Nine Hells!
