New Regimental Doctrines

If you’ve got Codex: Space Marines, you’ll be familiar with this concept, which enables you to custom build your own factional rules – in this case, your own Regimental Doctrine – instead of choosing from a pre-existing set. To do so, you pick two rules from the 12 options available to form your Regimental Doctrine, based on your favoured style of gameplay or the narrative you’ve created for your army.

You read that correctly – the Astra Militarum is getting 12 rules that you can combine to form the Regiments of your preferred playstyle. Here is an example of two of those rules: Gunnery Experts and Disciplined Shooters.

It says “Type” but we’re pretty sure that’s supposed to be “attacks” – we’re basing that on the follow-up sentence from GW:

Leman Russ turret weapons and heavy artillery vehicles will be able to up their effectiveness with re-rolls on the number of attacks they make.

That makes WAAAY more sense than rolling for the Type of the weapon. They aren’t Chaos Heretic Obliterators…right?

This one is pretty nasty as that means a single guardsmen can unload with 4 shots at 18″ with a First Rank, Fire! Second Rank, Fire! order. At least that’s according to GW’s interpretation from the article. Sure it’s just a str 3 flashlight but I’ve seen guardsmen take down knights with volume fire before.

Did you want to see a few more Regimental Doctrines? Good! Because here are two more examples:

Combined Auspex is nice and all, but Jury-Rigged Repairs seems a *little* bonkers. With a ton of tanks and the right pairing, you’ll have a steel wall of self-healing tanks lobbing shell after shell at the enemy.

New Stratagems

And hey, if tanks are your thing why not pony up the CP and make some Tank Aces:

What are Tank Aces? Well according to GW:

Instead of choosing a Warlord Trait, you can select a Tank Ace ability to apply to one of your eligible Astra Militarum vehicles.

With this stratagem you essentially get TWO Tank Aces. But what does that DO exactly? Well, there is a chart and you get to pick what special abilities those Aces get. Want an example? How about Weapon Expert:

That’s pretty mean – just think of this one on a Leman Russ Punisher. Oh hey, what if you want to make your Baneblade a little bit extra? There’s an Ace option for that too:

So enough with the Tank Ace Stratagem – what other stratagems are there? Lots. Here’s another pair of teasers for you:

Hellhounds that re-roll to wound vs units in cover and Armoured Sentinels that can fire Lascannons that hit on a 2+ on the first turn? Yikes! Sure sounds like the Astra Militarum are going to bring the PAIN with their version of the Greater Good!

Up for pre-order this weekend.
