Saga of the Beast is bringing us new Ork Subkulturs and one of them applies to Grot Mobs. This is about to get silly.

Grots are not exactly the most intimidating part of an Ork army. However, in large numbers, they can get things done. If you have ever wanted to build the Grot Revolution Army or if you’ve always wanted to a Green Tide of Grots then this one’s for you.

A 6+ Invulnerable save isn’t great – but it’s going to make your Gretchin surprisingly resilient as long as you roll 6s. On top of that, Vehicle models also get to re-roll a hit roll of 1. Grots were already the best shots in the army and a re-roll of 1 for all your vehicles is pretty useful, too.

Now, GW went ahead and put together a Grot themed army. It’s 384 Grots in a 99 Power list.

Yep – that’s a Brigade Detachment of Grots and friends. Yes, I know that they labeled it as Battalion Detachment, but it’s called out in their article that it’s actually a Brigade Detachment. At least they got everything else correct…

Regardless, it’s core is 330 Grots and that’s just a LOT. Sure – there are some Orks sprinkled in but you kinda have to have them around. I think it’s a thematic list for sure and the use of Grot Tanks is uh…interesting. More because you’ll be bringing these models along for the ride:

Is this the most competitive army out there? No – not by a long shot. At the same time, I think it could upset some of the other armies out there in hilarious fashion. Mek Guns can be shokkingly effective. Big Meks can also fire above their weight-class. And with all those other Meks running around the vehicles getting boosted shots, it’s not terrible…

Oh and then there is the bulk of 330 Grots to chew through. Normally, that wouldn’t be an issue but that 6+ save is going to pop-up and randomly save a unit’s bacon. If you’re playing a Flyer-list, have fun looking for a place to put your models…

So Many GROTS – kinda makes you wish for Templates again, right?

Personally, I’m not building this list – that’s 330 Grots I don’t have. Along with everything else in that list. That said, if you (somehow) have access to that many Grots, I hope you have some of those Apoc Movement Trays to move that many models around.

You’re going to need these. LOTS of these.

What do you think of the new Grot-focused Subkultur? What about the GW Grot-themed army?
