At long last, an ultra low modelcount giant model army arrives in Age of Sigmar. 40K got there in 2014.

I am SO, SO pumped for Sons of Behemat! The new battletome promises an all new way to play Age of Sigmar. The army features at least 3 new types of giants, er… mega-gargants.

These models are clearly what the new battletome is going to be all about. GW says that many armies can take a  Mega-gargant, and that you can combine many into a full standalone army.  The battletome is clearly built around that one new kit, and what a kit is is. The new “minis” dwarf the previous giant model who now has a serious case of self-esteem issues:

These things are enormous and I’m sure will fly off shelves as everyone from gamers to hobbyist will want one as a centerpiece for their collections.

Age of Sigmar, Welcome to 2014

You know that has me thinking. I can remember a time with an all new army came out that was based on a single kit. A kit everyone had to own, that could ally with almost any army, and could be used to form an ultra-low model count list if you wanted. That would be the first thin Codex Imperial Knights  (6th Edition)  from back in 2014.

I’m sure you all remember the fanfare and craziness that accompanied it. GW had limited edition decal sheets, hardback fluff only books and a generous allies table to get them flying off the shelves. The army was very one dimensional until the Imperial Knight variations started to arrive in 2015’s Codex Imperial Knights (7th Edition),  and would nor fully mature until 8th Edition’s addition of the Armiger and Dominus class chassis. GW has learned from the experience and with a sophisticated single kit got us 3 versions of the mega-gargants right off the bat.

We will have to see how Age of Sigmar handles extremely low modelcount armies. Can the Sons of Behemat handle MSO opponents? How will they deal with complex objective missions?  I’m sure GW has already playtested all of these scenarios out already and I can’t wait to see what special rules the big lunks get to let them fight on an even playing field against all the “little fellows”.  I bet a Sons of Behemat vs Gloomspite Gitz game looks amazing!

Color me impressed and I think I hear the thumping of giant feet in my hobby future. I also fully expect to see some amazing “feral” Imperial Knight conversions used for 40K with these lummoxes toting around Imperial Knight guns and kitted out in crude cobbled together armor. It’s gonna be AWESOME! You hobbyists better start working up your devious plans.

~ How excited are you for these big guys?

p.s.  This is going to all be terribly confusing for us old timers. We all know that THIS is what a mega-gargant is:
