Announced earlier this week, Kids on Broomsticks, an upcoming RPG based on the Kids on Bikes RPG, will take players to wizard school for magical adventures.

Look you don’t get to live in 2020 without at least knowing the name Harry Potter. The franchise was a cultural phenomenon that provided a space for many young readers to explore a world of fantasy that they would then let define their entire adult lives. You can find everything from Harry Potter pubcrawls to trivia nights, there’s a company right now that will pay you to watch the movies and livetweet about it–though that does mean you’ll be on Twitter where you might also learn that before the books happened, but well after the invention of modern plumbing, wizards just sort of soiled their robes wherever they stood and then used magic to get rid of the mess.

I don’t want to know that wizards were standing around in poopy robes for centuries anymore than I want to know that Dumbledore’s brother has a goat fetish, but we live in a world where both of these facts are canonically true.

With that massive cultural weight it’s a wonder we haven’t seen more RPGs oriented towards kids doing magical things at school. But there’s one in the works, announced recently from Renegade Game Studios: Kids on Brooms, based on the award-winning Kids on Bikes RPG which is an homage to all the movies that Stranger Things was too. Let’s take a look.

Kids on Brooms – $25

You pull your wand from the folds of your cloak, and its glowing blue end illuminates the door in front of you—the entrance to the banned books section. You watch as the copper snakes twist and turn around the lock that keeps students like you out. But you’ve been left with no choice. Your barn owl hoots softly upon your shoulder as you raise your wand to the knob and whisper the unspoken words.

Kids on Brooms is a collaborative role-playing game about taking on the life of a witch or wizard at a magical school you all attend- a place full of mystery, danger, and thrilling adventure.
