RPG: GenCon Delays Registration – Forges Onward

2 Minute Read
May 1 2020

Gen Con announced today that they would be delaying registration for the 2020 event while they evaluate safety measures.

It should be no surprise to hear that an event scheduled for 2020 has been cancelled, by now. With major events like GDC and the UK Games Fair announcing their cancellations, it’s far more surprising these days to learn that something hasn’t been cancelled. Like Gen Con, which is still considering safety conditions and the state of the outbreak (and those words alone should be enough to make anyone reconsider holding any kind of large event), before making their final decision.

For now, registration and the schedule of events has been delayed, giving Gen Con time to determine whether or not they can safely manage to open their doors this year or not. Here’s the full announcement.

We have been closely following the current outbreak of COVID-19, and we know that our attendees and community are as concerned as we are about the virus and the uncertainty that comes with it.

In light of announcements made by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, we want to assure our community that we are considering health guidelines from Indiana State officials as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as we monitor the situation and prepare for any contingencies.

While we evaluate safety measures related to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, both the release of the event catalog and the opening of event registration will be delayed. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time. We will update our community with the measures we are taking to keep everyone safe and healthy in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, please take care of yourselves and your loved ones. We wish you health and safety, and we will continue to post updates to this page as the situation develops.

GAMA has put together a Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS) locator page. Many games stores are offering alternate shopping experiences such as curbside pick-up or local delivery for purchased items, or have begun offering gift cards. We encourage you to use the tool to search for stores near you and support your local gaming community.

Gen Con is currently 90 days out–and though parts of the country are starting to re-open after shelter-in place orders, a lot can happen in 90 days. Please take care when considering travel and event attendance.

Happy (and safe) Adventuring!
