After hitting unexpected stability and localization issues, developer Larian Studios has pushed back Baldur’s Gate 3’s launch by a week.

Ordinarily, news that you’d have to wait another week before having a parasitic and psionic entity implanted into your brain, would be a cause for relief (if not eventual concern). But, today that news is just a bit of a let down, as Larian Studios, developers of the upcoming Baldur’s Gate 3, set to go into Early Access on September 30th, have announced that the release has been pushed back by a week, to October 6th.

This move is to give them time to address a few “unexpected delays and stability issues” that have come up at the last miunte. According to a statement from Larian:

Our guiding principle for early access is that it’s fine for there to be smaller bugs or a few things that are lacking polish, but it needs to offer a fun gameplay experience with as few crashes as possible.

We’re nearly there but we have a few unexpected delays, and we still have some stability issues we’re sifting through. Because of the delays, our translations are also later than expected and we want to ensure localization for the announced early access languages is strong enough for our international fans to have a good time.

And that’s all well and good, but the more concerning statement is that Larian is in possession of an “AI Super-gamer.”

The World Tester is a sort of AI super-gamer that that plays through the game at incredible speed, stress testing everything and pushing it to its limits.”

We expect it’s only a matter of time before the AI super gamer starts streaming tool-assisted speedruns on Twitch, while talking to you about how you should get into Raid Shadow Legends.

Or how you can browse more securely with a VPN. I never would have thougt that the AI that eventually takes over the world would want me to mash that like button, and detonate a nuke on that bell notification so that I can get push notifications when it goes live. But this is the world we live in, devastated by a Baja,–rather than Thermonuclear–Blast.

Now we are become Dew, Fuel of Gamers

In the meantime, we can just hope to enjoy the twists and turns and betrayals and romances of Baldur’s Gate 3 before our new AI overlords demand to know where we’re dropping. Assuming civilization makes it to the 6th of October, be sure and check back for more details from the front lines of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Happy Adventuring!
