Baldur’s Gate 3 contains some hidden and not-so-hidden romance. Want to know who’s into you? Check out our guide to love in Baldur’s Gate.

Baldur’s Gate 2 was one of the first big RPGs to really hammer home the idea that you can fall in love (or lust) with your fellow party members. It introduced a bit of spice and laid out what we colloquially know as “the Bioware” formula, where you basically spend some time getting to know the other people you’re running around with, and depending on what they think of you, maybe complete a personal quest and at some point have a romantic interlude that ranges from a chaste kiss, to, well…

And Baldur’s Gate 3, as you can see from the image above, hopes to continue that legacy, even if the smooches aren’t all implemented just yet. It’s only the first month of Early Access, after all–but even so, there’s still romance in the air, if you know where to look. Here’s where you can look for love in Baldur’s Gate 3. Be warned, spoilers ahead, including a secret romance option!

Astarion

Astarion is a brooding high elf vampire spawn rogue, which is a mouthful. He’s a bit of a noble dandy, who is extremely interested in getting to know the player character. With a posh voice that knows exactly what to say, Astarion comes off as a devil-may-care flirt, but you can get to know him more when the party camps. Astarion has depth–but, he seems to be into the main PC regardless of where his approval is.

After all, some relationships are worth pursuing even if you know they’re a bad idea. But if you want to win this roguish bloodsucker over, you should know he wants to be the center of attention, loves someone as “dramatic” (or blunt) as he is, and wants to know you’re looking to benefit from whatever you do.

Shadowheart

Another broody type–she is a half-elf cleric, and a devout follower of Shar, mistress of secrets and the night. She is one of the pricklier characters at first, and is reserved (as you would expect a cleric of secrets to be). But if you can manage to win her over, by doing things like helping people (but only for personal gain), or dealing cruel people their just desserts, you might find Shadowheart opening up about her own personal secrets.

To top it off, she’s an animal lover too, so if you can befriend some of the animal companions in the world, Shadowheart reads that as a good sign.

Wyll

Your new favorite Warlock. One of the few genuinely good people in the game, Wyll is a folk hero known as the Blade of Frontiers, who is basically an all-around good guy. He wants to help wherever he can, wants to make peace where it can be had, and is in general a fan of doing good deeds.

Be wary though, if there’s one thing Wyll doesn’t like it’s goblins. So take care if you find yourself embroiled in their power-hungry schemes.

Lae’Zel

The githyanki warrior with a heart of steel, Lae’Zel is a fearsome, unyielding warrior seeking same. She wants a partner who matches her sensibilities–someone who shows their strength at every turn, someone who will deal ruthlessly with those who cross them, and, someone who is willing to help her find her long lost creche.

Lae’Zel is one of the more straightforward romances out there, so long as you’re willing to be merciless.

Gale

Sweet husband Gale is one of the more mysterious and whimsical characters out there. Gale is a charming surface that hides a tragic backstory, which we won’t spoil here, but is worth finding out. Gale loves basically everything that a good-aligned PC does: acting altruistically, helping children, and in general being nice.

Players who fulfill that tall order will learn that Gale has quite a bit of depth. Especially if they’ve encountered some of his early secrets…

Minthara

Minthara is a stealth romance option. She’s the only NPC who’s not a part of the main party that’s romanceable, for now, but players who follow the threads of the druid grove and decide to turn against them, aiding instead the drow and goblins in destroying the druids and tieflings taking shelter there, will have the opportunity to talk to and romance Minthara.

Now those are all the options that are here for now, but presumably, Larian will be patching in more as Early Access wears on, so keep an eye out for more.

Who did you romance? Let us know in the comments!
