The real world plague has delayed the release of the Death Guard Codex. Isn’t that ironic, don’t ya think?

Man, 2020 can just go away already. In a story we couldn’t make up Games Workshop has delayed the release of the Death Guard Codex due to “unavoidable delays to crucial shipments” caused by COVID-19. This is situational irony if I’ve ever seen it.

The Death Guard, as you probably know, are followers of the chaos god Nurgle. Nurgle is known as the Plague Father (among other names). So the plague followers book got delayed because of a real world plague…

Oh…I get it.

Here’s the announcement by GW.

via Warhammer Community

“Nurgle’s loyal disciples will have to wait a little longer for the new Death Guard codex and accompanying releases, as the ongoing effects of COVID-19 have caused unavoidable delays to crucial shipments.

Given the circumstances, we’ve had to take the difficult decision to delay the Death Guard launch until early next year. We are, of course, devastated that the sons of Barbarus can’t release in time for the holiday season as intended, but these unfortunate circumstances are beyond our control.”

So…yeah, that stinks. While getting your releases delayed does sting GW is at least being upfront about the delay. And to try and ease the burn they do has some ointment for us all in the form of a free wallpaper:

You can download that here for your desktop and here for your phone screen.

They have also dropped the Daemon Primarch Mortarion’s new datasheet for all to see:

It’s a cool preview for sure! Although we don’t really know what Death Guard units will be Core (but you can probably make some educated guesses). He still seems pretty darn beefy so that’s nice for the Death Guard out there. He’s weapons look just as deadly as ever and he’s got a TON of special rules. Morty will still be tossing out two psychic powers and attempting to deny three a turn as well. What’s not to like about this one?! Well…other than the delay I suppose.

GW also alluded to the new Contagions of Nurgle ability:

“What’s that new Contagions of Nurgle ability all about, we hear you ask? Well, we’ll be revealing more about that soon, during the build-up to the codex’s new release date. For now, suffice it to say that it’s disgusting – both in principle and its in-game effects – so your opponent won’t want to go anywhere near your Death Guard if they can avoid it!”

One final gift from GW in regards to Mortarion is that they did release his points value: 490. So if you want to take the Daemon Primarch out for a spin with his new rules right now you can.

So anyone want to take a stab at what’s going to be Death Guard Core units? I’m going to take a wild guess and say Plague Marines. Just a hunch.

Sorry for the delay. Enjoy the appetizer of irony that 2020 has served up in the meantime.
