Faerun is home to renowned heroes and villains. But if you’re hanging around the Sword Coast you’re sure to run into these.

When it comes to the Forgotten Realms, it really is an apt name. Faerun is all but forgotten outside of the little stretch of land that runs along the Sword Coast. Today we’re taking a look in the Remembered Realms and finding some famous Faerunian faces you’re bound to run into. Just be sure to know which ones are friends, and which are foes. Although that can change at a moment’s notice.

Vajra Safahr

Running around the streets of Waterdeep, managing all sorts of magical mischief and making sure that powerful spellcasters stay in line, is Vajra Safahrs. She’s the current Blackstaff of Waterdeep, which means that she reports directly to the Lords of Waterdeep as well as being able to draw upon the power of her position’s eponymous artifact.

Jarlaxle Baenrae

The pirate king of the Sword Coast, Jarlaxle Baenrae is a drow who has his fingers in just about every sort of illicit activity you could imagine. Smuggling. Dealing in illicit goods. Hunting down powerful artifacts – if your party is looking for someone unsavory, it doesn’t get sweeter than Jarlaxle. He’s a fop, he’s got magic powers, and he’s so Charismatic you’ll have a hard time hitting him. A great foil for anyone looking to adventure on the sword coast.

Artus Cimber

Artus Cimber is an adventurer and a harper and one of the most sought-after people on the Sword Coast. From Frost Giants to the Red Wizards of Thay, Artus Cimber is a hunted man, and not because he kind of looks like Nicolas Cage, but rather because he possesses a powerful magic item known as the Ring of Winter, which grants many powers, including immortality, protection from scrying or detection magic, control over ice and snow, and ice versions of your favorite spells. If you can find him, he might be a powerful ally – assuming you’re able to deal with whoever’s hunting him this week.

Laeral Silverhand

Secretly the daughter of the goddess Mystra, Laeral Silverhand is an immortal mage (Faerun has a bunch) and is one of the key figures in Waterdeep. She started a secretive organization known as the Moonstars (or Silverstars, or Twelvestars) after marrying Khelben “Blackstaff” Arunsun. The Moonstars were a secret society dedicated to preserving life and knowledge but dedicated to Mystra. As Open Lord of Waterdeep, she’s got a lot to offer friends – and the force of a city to bring down on foes.

Mirt the Moneylender

Also known as Mirt the Merciless and Lord Walrus, Mirt the Moneylender is a “retired” adventurer who has hung up his adventuring boots and now struts around the city of Waterdeep with considerable wealth made from a famous delve into Undermountain. Mirt owns several properties, is a Lord of Waterdeep, and is one of few Masked Lords of Waterdeep to leave Waterdeep and return–unmasked no less.

And these are but a few of the famous faces of Faerun.
