The Kabalite Trueborn and Hekatrix Bloodbrides are back – along with a Haemoculus retinue, too. Check out what these Favoured Retinues can do!

Long time fans of the Drukhari will remember the Kabalite Trueborn and the Bloodbrides. Now they are back with a vengeance in the new codex. We got our hands on a copy and they are looking pretty useful for your Raiding Forces:

Return of the Retinue

Kabalite Trueborn

The Kabalite Trueborn are essentially a Kabalite Warrior unit that has received some enhancements. For each Master Archon (which is an upgraded Archon option you pay additional points for) you get to upgrade one unit of Kabalite Warriors. They have to be from the same detachment and have a max size of 10. But gaining that Kabalite Trueborn keyword has some additional perks.

For starters, they all get a BS of 2+ now. In addition to that, they ALSO get to “ignore any or all” to hit roll Ballistic Skill modifiers. Yep, your pretty much always hitting on 2s no matter who you’re shooting. That’s going to ensure they hit whatever they are aiming at and hopefully all those poison (or other weapon-type) shots will be able to do some damage. They also get to add a point of leadership which is a nice little boost.

The Wyches are back with their Hekatrix Bloodbrides and they are mean and ready to mix it up in close combat. Unlocked in a similar manner as the Trueborn, you still need a Master Succubus or just take Lelith Hesperax. For each one you take, you can upgrade a unit of Wyches from the same detachment into the Hekatrix Bloodbrides which also have a max unit size of 10.

These upgraded Wyches get a boost to their WS and now hit on 2+. They get a +1 to their leadership and finally, perhaps most importantly, when they would trigger their Blade Artists ability they get an additional AP of 3 instead of just 1. OUCH. They are going to be able to tear through armor like the close combat monsters they are.

Haemoxytes

Finally, we get a look at the Haemonculus version of a retinue. This one is…interesting. They are a lot more defensive than their counterparts. We’ll get to that. To recruit this unit, it’s just like the other two – you’ll need a Master Haemonculus or Urien Rakarth. For each master, you can upgrade one unit of Wracks in the same detachment. Again, the max unit size of this unit is 10. Are we seeing a pattern yet?

So what do they get? Well, they get a +1 to both their regular save AND their invulnerable save. Plus they get to essentially ignore the first failed save once per phase. “The damage of the attack is changed to 0” so that’s kind of cool. Additionally, they get +1 to their leadership which could come in handy. They are going to be a lot more tanky than their non-favoured versions.

For each of these upgraded units there is one more thing to note: Points Increases.

  • Kabalite Trueborn: +1 power per 5 models, +2 points per model
  • Hekatrix Bloodbrides: +1 power per 5 models, +2 points per model
  • Haemoxytes: +1 power per 5 models, +2 points per model’

Time to load-up on the Retinues!
