Games Workshop is pulling the covers off the new rules for the Disciples of Be’lakor. It’s Chaos time.

Be’lakor is getting some new rules for Warhammer 40,000 and they are looking to match his exciting new model. On top of that, he’s also getting a new Army of Renown to run with him. If you’ve ever wanted to do a mix-and-match Chaos Marine and Daemon army, well, now is a great opportunity to do just that.

via Warhammer Community

“Armies of Renown enable you to field legendary or infamous military forces from the lore in your games of Warhammer 40,000. They can even comprise units from a number of different factions in a single Detachment, as is the case with Be’lakor’s Disciples. A special set of restrictions applies to each Army of Renown to ensure that it adheres as accurately as possible to the one that fought in the narrative.”

Restrictions? Really More Like Guidelines…

Let’s start off with the main of the limitation for army building for the Disciples of Be’lakor:

  • You can’t include a second specific Daemon unit unless if also includes a second unit for every Chaos God.

For example, if you want a second unit of Khorne Daemons, you also have include a second unit of Nurgle Daemons, Tzeentch Daemons, and Slaanesh Daemons. Be’lakor is the OG Undivided Daemon Prince after-all. Curiously, we’re not seeing a similar restriction for Marked Chaos Space Marines…

How About Those Benefits?

Alright, so you’ve got some limits in place so what do you get if you follow those guidelines? Well, all your Troops get Objective Secured plus you get access to a bunch of army specific rules – like stratagems and the Noctic Discipline for your Psykers. Also, those Daemon Loci and CSM Legion Traits? They get a tweak. Let’s see some examples of these things.

New Stratagems

This isn’t quite Fly, but it’s effectively the same thing in regards to models. Pretty cool when you think about it! And the whole “Shadow” theme doesn’t stop there…

New Daemonic Aura

Whoa. The trade off is you don’t get their Daemon God’s Locus of origin, but now those Daemon Units in your army get this new Locus and it should help you close the gap quite a bit vs those pesky gunlines.

Looks like the Chaos Space Marines Legion Trait is also going to make them hard to hit. Plus they get a little bit of a Combat Attrition boost. And by a bit of a boost, they are basically immune to Combat Attrition unless they are below 1/2 strength:

Note: It’s not unmodified rolls of 1…

In any case, Be’lakor’s new Disciples are sounding pretty cool as an army. I’m looking forward to see what else they get in the new book because you know this is just the tip of a shadowy new iceberg of rules. The Shadowmaster has come to play in 40k!
