Today we dive into Tac Ops, the sneaky secondary objectives that can add a lot of twists to your Kill Team games.

via Warhammer-Community

“Although your games of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team will be focused around specific mission objectives, there are always opportunities to eke out extra success from every deployment. Enter the Tac Ops secondary objectives, which you choose before the game begins, worth a solid stack of victory points that might just be the difference between victory and defeat.”

TAC OPS Basics

  • So what exactly are TAC OPS?  What we have here are a set of secondary objectives that add some secrecy, and tactical twists to any game of Kill Team.  First of all, every Kill Team is broken down into an “Archtypes”, (or more than one). Each Archtype reflects a specific way of war and you get examples such as:Security
  • Seek and Destroy
  • Recon
  • etc…

Each of these archtypes corresponds to a set of 6 TAC OPS cards. Each player takes these two at a time, and in three steps, looks at two, and discards one. When you are done, you will have 3 cards in your hand, with your TAC OPS.  Here are some examples to give you an idea of what we’re talking about:

The Sneaky Part

But here is where it gets REALLY interesting. Two key points.

  • These cards are kept SECRET, and only revealed when they are used. So expect lots of feints, sneakiness, and surprises surrounding their use.
  • In Matched Play games, you Select your mission FIRST, then the TAC OPS, so they will have maximum impact.
