Get ready to steal the best treasures in the world for your very own, because a brand new rpg based on Lupin the 3rd is coming to a tabletop near you!

It has been fifty years since the legendary gentleman thief Lupin III and his gang of incredibly competent ne’er-do-wells with secret hearts of gold stole our hearts, pawned them for large amounts of money, and had to run away because Inspector Zenigata was hot on their tale, disguised improbably well.

Get your best blazer, jazz with a little bit of funk on it, and an eye for what’s really valuable because this year, to celebrate the anniversary, TMS Entertainment has partnered with a new RPG publisher, Magnetic Press (who are currently making the Carbon Grey RPG), to bring you a tabletop roleplaying game set in the world of Lupin the 3rd.

The upcoming RPG will toss players into a world of master criminals and dogged police agents set against a backdrop of globetrotting heists and adventures full of “the charm, wit, and thrills of that entire series, from Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro to the latest Lupin III: The First.”

But what makes the game stand out is the promising allure of a system of “open-world quests” which are reminiscent of both collectible card games and video game RPGs. Magnetic Press seems to be working to develop a system that will let players determine their challenges, rewards, and any danger at their own discretion. It’s a move that, if pulled off, could work really well for making players feel like they’re in a world different from other RPGs.

But what system will they be using, you might be wondering?

The game will be published under Magnetic’s gaming imprint, Magnetic Press Play, and will utilize their unique “Magnetic Variant (D6MV)” ruleset built upon the classic D6 System made popular by West End Games with their original Star Wars and Ghostbusters RPGs.

If you’re curious about the classic system, you can check out more about the West End Star Wars RPG here. In the meantime, more info about the game will be revealed in October, so stay tuned!

What will you steal first?
