We’re patiently (some of us less so) waiting for a first look at the next Spider-Man movie – where is it?

Everything below contains rumors, and therefore potential spoilers, for Spider-Man: No Way Home. If you want to be fully surprised and have somehow managed to avoid all of the rumors floating around the internet, we’re impressed! We support your journey. But you should stop reading this now.

The December 17th release date of Spider-Man: No Way Home will be on us before we know it, but we still don’t have a lot of information about the film. It’s not new for Marvel to get all hush-hush about production, but with COVID-related delays and some very juicy rumors circulating, we’re all living in a state of high anticipation.

Some facts, and some pretty solid rumors…

No Way From Home will be another multiverse story– or at least, it’ll be connected to the Multiverse of Madness. We received the clue from Kevin Feige himself, and soon enough, Benedict Cumberbatch was confirmed to reprise his role as Doctor Strange in the Spidey film. Thanks to a few merchandise images for the upcoming film, we can guess that Peter Parker’s suit will be receiving a magical upgrade.

During the mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home, we left a horrified Peter Parker as he watches the alarmist news anchor, J. Jonah Jameson, has just revealed Peter’s identity to the entire world, thanks to posthumous (?) footage left by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhall). Now, JJJ was played by J.K. Simmons, who also played the character in the Sam Raimi trilogy, and he’s even voiced the character in animated Spideyverses. It’s my personal theory that the actor is just so good at portraying the character that he’s multiversally ubiquitous.

Other cast confirmations have sent speculators’ heads spinning. Alfred Molina has confirmed that he’ll be returning as Doctor Octopus, indicating that this story will, in fact, feature villains from alternate universes. Adding fuel to the fire, Jaime Foxx will be returning as Electro, a villain from the second Spider-Man series starring Andrew Garfield.

And then there are other rumors…

Undoubtedly, the spiciest rumors revolve around the return of previous Spider-Men Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield. These two Peters, along with MaryJane (Kirsten Dunst) and Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone), have been rumored to be around the area in L.A. during the filming. None of this is confirmed, and it isn’t exactly revolutionary for actors to be spotted in L.A., but it’s not just veteran Spideys whose locations are being tracked by fans.

Also believed to be nearby during filming was Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, and Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Karen Page. Fans, myself included, are particularly enthusiastic about this rumor, since we haven’t seen much of the Netflix corner of the MCU since Defenders.

As much as we love a good-guy sighting, the return of both Doc Oc and Electro has introduced the idea that the Sinister Six will make a full appearance in No Way Home. The two previous Sony/Marvel Spider-Man movies have already introduced us to 3 of the team’s other members. Michael Keaton’s Vulture is currently in jail, along with his Homecoming team-mate Mac Gargon, who (in the comics) is also known as the villain Scorpion. And while Mysterio is presumed dead, nobody but Uncle Ben is guaranteed to stay that way. Combine these characters with Doc, Electro, and Sam Raimi’s iteration of Sandman, and an introduction to Kraven the Hunter… well, you’ve got yourself a fully-formed Spidey-villain team.

Donald Glover’s appearance as Aaron Davis in Homecoming is also bouncing around in fans’ minds, too. In the film, Aaron mentions his nephew living in the area, and his nephew is none other than Miles Morales. With Tom Holland’s contract with Sony coming to an end after the third film, could Sony be laying the groundwork for Miles to pick up the webcrawler’s helm?

The choice to leave fans without a trailer for-literally-ever could be a tactical move– the studio’s next release, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, hits theaters on September 3rd and Marvel has been giving us plenty of juicy promo to put butts in the seats for the release. I’m just guessing here, but a post-credits scene in Shang-Chi would be an ideal time to reveal some important Spidey imagery. Until those credits roll, we won’t know for sure.
