We know the next few Codexes on the way – but who’s after that? Games Workshop has shared a new 2021 Codex Roadmap to show you the way.

Oh Games Workshop loves it’s teases. We have a new 2021 Codex Roadmap and it’s confirmed who’s next and who’s after that for codex releases. However, it’s also teasing another pair of codexes for December 2021.

via Warhammer Community

“With Codex: Grey Knights and Codex: Thousand Sons currently available for pre-order, it’s high time we showed you the road map of codex releases still to come in 2021.”

Oh my. Well, Grey Knights and Thousands Sons are already up for pre-order. Orks are coming in September (too bad we didn’t get an ORKtober). And then the Black Templars are getting a codex supplement in November 2021. Notice we aren’t getting a 40k codex release in October – perhaps GW has something else planned for that month.

But then we get to December with TWO codexes slated for release. Those images are interesting for sure. The one on the left looks more Imperial while the one on the right looks a tad more xenos related. That last bit was also confirmed by GW:

“And in December, we’ll see brand new codexes for xenos and Imperial armies. What could they be? We can’t tell you, which has nothing to do with the Inquisitor looming menacingly behind us…”

We also know that image comes from the Core Rulebook and has quite a few other images on it:

That’s a whole lot of wonderfully strange stuff. Could we be in store for a completely new Xenos army in December? Wouldn’t that be something special!

In terms of what the last two books could be we do have a ton of armies that don’t currently have a book:

  • Adeptus Custodes
  • Imperial Knights
  • Astra Militarum
  • Inquisition (with Assassins and Sisters of Silence)
  • Chaos Daemons
  • Chaos Knights
  • Chaos Space Marines
  • Craftworld Aeldari
  • Genestealer Cult
  • Harlequins
  • T’au Empire
  • Tyranids
  • Ynnari

It’s a big list but it is shrinking. Slowly. Many of those books are really starting to show their age however. And pretty much all of them would LOVE to get a new codex sooner rather than later. At least two of them (one Imperial and one Xenos) will be lucky and get a new book in December – unless we get a completely new army or two.

No New Chaos Traitors?

What about Chaos you ask? Well, after the Thousand Sons book you’re going to have to wait for a few more months before you get some attention. But your patience will be rewarded.

“Do not despair, as 2022 will be a bumper year for warp-based shenanigans.”

2022, you say? I guess we’ll have to wait until then…

Who do you think is next on the Codex Deck for December?
