Netflix’s partnership with Mike Flanagan continues with this new mini-series about the price of miracles.

A young and mysterious priest arrives on an isolated island to spread the gospel to its residents. His arrival is followed by miraculous events and frightening omens – and a town gone mad.

This feels a bit like Needful Things with the mysterious stranger bringing miracles that come with a price. Mike Flanagan is great at creating atmosphere and likes to create stories around puzzles – this trailer shows a bit of how he can weave dread into a story that audiences will want to binge-watch to see how the pieces fit. Where is this power coming from and what will the ultimate price be? It’s got me interested.

From The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan, MIDNIGHT MASS tells the tale of a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater). When Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with unexplained and seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor takes hold of the community – but do these miracles come at a price?

The seven-episode mini-series stars Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Annarah Cymone, Alex Essoe, and Zach Gilford. It’s written and created by Mike Flanagan – the mind behind Haunting at Hill House and Doctor Sleep.

Midnight Mass arrives on Netflix on September 24th.
