Venom and his hyper-violent, red adversary are arriving early.

The sequel was slated for last year and has been moved several times. It seems like the $90 million box office take for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the reason for this latest move, according to Variety. Sony is hedging their bets by making it a theater-only release without a streaming date and the success of Marvel’s latest movie seems to be giving them hope that they can pull off a repeat.

In the sequel, Eddie Brock and Venom are trying to live their lives. The journalist’s relationship with his symbiote has become a bad roommate/incredibly dangerous, always hungry talking pet situation. One of them is done with the vigilante crime-fighting business, the other literally wants to eat criminals. Then the two meet Cletus Kasady, Carnage, and Shriek – and all hell breaks loose. Eddie has to make a choice.

The movie is directed by Andy Serkis. The cast is led by Tom Hardy (as Eddie and the voice of Venom), and includes Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson. It picked up a PG-13 rating for “intense sequences of violence and action, some strong language, disturbing material, and suggestive references.”

Venom: Let There Be Carnage tears into theaters (and only theaters) on October 1st.
